Did anyone else feel like this year was a bit meh? A lot of the games on display were shown at last year's E3 and they have 2018 release dates.

I was in the Netherlands for the week, so I missed it... I did read up on the Xbox One X though... I'm actually quite happy about how they are handling it, using the same game library as the Xbox One

I was in the Netherlands for the week, so I missed it... Trust me you didn't miss it, there was nothing to miss lol Probably the best news is being able to play original Xbox games on your Xbox One. It would be nice to see a bigger list than the 360 had someday. Man if the Xbox X didn't have the same library as the Xbox One I would be pissed lol Is there going to be a Xbox One versions of a game and a Xbox X version of a game?

No I think because they are all "Xbox One" they will keep that labeling and packaging Maybe a strip "Best on Xbox One X" at the top of the label will promote the performance boost. I think the games on disc will all run on any Xbox One but the X model will download an update for each game that will optimize it to run best on that hardware.
Ill post some more e3 comments later but on the whole, it was a bit meh. Everything exciting is coming next year and anything I would be excited for this year feels like a settle.

I'm just going to glaze over some standout things I was interested in.
Xbox One X: If I had been waiting till now to get a current gen console, and had a 4K TV, the XBOX is a no-brainer. The $500 price tag is alittle too steep to warrant an upgrade for anyone without a 4K TV. Personally, it was a bit underwhelming. I appreciate them sticking true to their word on making Xbox a family of consoles. The XBOX looks like last years model and comes with the same controller, it's an Xbox One S. Just the most powerful model. However, with the lower performance ceiling on the XONE, PS4, and even the PRO I just can't justify an upgrade to a console that may never realize it's full potential. Ultimately, this is Xbox One 4K Edition.
Anthem: That game looks like it could be fun but we don't know that much about it. Looked like traversing the world of Avatar in an Iron Man suit. I just gotta mention it because it's what alot of people consider the best in show. I liked what I saw like so many others, but it's still a long way out. I wouldn't be surprised to see it Q1 2019 even.
Far Cry 5: This one inst so far out but still next year. I am really looking forward to this one. Born and raised in the heartland of the united states, Modern day Montana is the open-world setting I never knew I wanted. Living on the foothills of the rockys myself, I can vouch for the authenticity. It looks the part. I also like the bad guys. Christian extremists. If only because we just haven't seen these kind of villains in this type of game before. Mostly I'm looking forward to see how well they implement the co-op. This is going to be the first game in the series to let players drop in and out of the sandbox at will. No special campaign or invisible boarders for co-op this time. I'm really looking forward to this one.
CoD:WW2: I'm an fps junkie. COD is a fact of life. Were talking about it. I was at first on-board with the concept of the series going back to it's roots after the jet packs and power slides. After seeing some multiplayer gameplay footage this E3, my interest has plummeted. Yes. Call of Duty has to be Call of Duty and that's it's greatest strength and biggest demerit here. WW2 in motion looks and sounds like a World at War (2008) remake. Having played both WaW and Back Ops in the last 6 months via backwards compatibility, CoD 2017 fees like more of the same. A step backwards almost literally. Worse yet, most did not everybody played World at War last year. They played Battlefield 1 which fundamentally needed to play like a WWII shooter for fun sake. So... this is Call of Dutys particular flavor of World War II and it feels tired. If you love that old Call of Duty than go ahead and pre-order. It's CoD. I hope the zombies mode is good. Beta impressions coming in September.
State of Decay 2: So I'm disappointed we're (with FC5) going to have to wait till spring for this one. I was sure a late September release would have been golden. Anyway, the trailer looked great. I'm very pleased with the setting and atmosphere. Something tells me this is going to be a true sequel. State of Decay in all the ways we wanted it to be originally. There really isnt too much else to say about the game at this time. We still haven't seen much of it. I hope to be looting houses and evading zeds with everyone next spring.
Battlefront 2: I recently wrote a post about the atrocious load times in the original and I stand by what i said there. If the load times are just as bad in Battlefront II, it's a no buy. DICE has all the potential in the world to hit this one out of the park. I think they are being too selective about what they decide to cherry pick out of each trilogy (no JarJar) but at least this time, were getting the entirety of the universe and not just as it was in the original trilogy. The graphics, gameplay, and variety all seem vastly improved and expanded upon. The DLC is going to be free as well, with after purchase revenue coming from CoD style in-game loot crates instead of expensive DLC packs. Overall DICE is making Battlefront a helluva lot friendlier to modern shooter fans and Star Wars fans alike. I'll have beta impressions this fall.

It hasn't been said yet so I will say it Anthem, Far cry 5, CoD:WW2, Battlefront 2 and State of Decay 2 only 1 of these games weren't known about going into E3. I can't remember the last E3 where nothing "new" was announced. When even knew about the Xbox One X except the name... which was just adding an x yah!
Far Cry 5 does look very fun and at the very least it will be a good co-op it's just a shame we have to wait until next year for it and SOD2.

Yeah. Remember when Sony "won" E3 with FF7 and Shenmue? Nothing takes the excitement out of E3 news than knowing it could be over a year before you get to play it. Ya know, 1997 was a great year for video games. So was 2007..... but 2017? I'm not feeling it. It's breaking the chain.

Hopefully we aren't going back to the great video game drought. I have a bunch of games to catch up on anyway so I don't mind too much but I would have liked at least one co-op game we could play together this year!

What's interesting of the games I mentioned, I'm only interested in the co-op elements of them. If I can get into the coop the single-player stuff will be all the easier to enjoy. Battlefront and WW2 will have co-op and split-screen from what I gather. My wife and I play Zombies on Black Ops 2 almost every day. We also play skirmish mode on Battlefront together. That is, when were not tag teaming State of Decay for the monthly achievement.
Whether I buy WW2 or not rests soley on in the zombies mode is good. If it has giant mutants in it or crazy spaceland gimmicks it;s going to take a helluva lot of good reviews to sway me to pick it up. Have you seen the gameplay? If you were ever burnt out on COD in your life, that game likely won't hold your interest a week.
Battlefront was the most popular game at e3. Lots of youtube coverage and consumer friendly promises from EA drove that. Frankly, Battefront looks like a 2017 multiplayer FPS and that's more than I can say for any other shooter I saw this year. I expect the game to be... better than the first one. I wan't to be surprised. With it's DLC being free as well, people could be picking this up again and again all year just to play the new content.
I'm sure I'll be playing SoD and Far Cry 5 on day one. Both of those games are looking better and better and knowing what to expect from playing past games, I can't wait.

I think more games should feature a co-op mode me and a friend always struggle to find games to play together. I guess it has becoming unrealistic for a game to have a good single player, co-op and online mode but I think it is still doable with the right planning and reusing game assets.
I am still very tempted to get COD blops3 for those new zombie maps. Anyone else up for playing them with me?!

I would be but when all is purchased, it'll probably end up running me $70. Thats more than I've paid for a video game maybe ever. At one time, at least. Still haven't played all of the last CoD I bought. IW Legacy Edition. Played the crap out of that "remaster" of CoD4 though.
It seems the games that offer the most solid multiplayer/co-op is online-only and sucks by yourself. Anymore I just want something that can be enjoyed by yourself and a friend, isn't online only, and isnt segmented with horrid micro-transactions.
Just going back to those CoD games on XONE via backward comp only highlights how far we have come. Some of my co-workers are excited for WW2 but all I see is a CoD2/World@War remake. At best a remake, but maybe a bastardization of what people expect. People will dig it for being different, for being just like what they had a decade ago.
I get the feeling we arnt going to see a whole lot of innovation or change within the FPS genre now. The powers that be don't really encourage change, and have discovered they would much rather rely on our fuzzy memories of "fun" times we had with a CoD game a decade ago, and re-sell us that experience. If not as a remake, than an attempt to "return to the series roots" because they are "listening to the fans".

I would be but when all is purchased, it'll probably end up running me $70. How so? Call of Duty Black Ops III - Zombies Chronicles is $29.99 and at most a copy of the game is about $15. I know that is quite a lot but I have always said I would buy a dedicated COD zombie game and that is pretty much what this is. It has 8 zombie maps so that is good enough for me.

I'm having trouble finding a copy of Blops 3 for less than $30 right now. I mean, I guess it's the price of a full game. Probably run my $60 on when it's all over. I'll look into it. I am interested. Ya know, when you beat the campaign in that you can go through it again but it's zombies. How cool is that

How cool is that I know you already sent me a PM but I want everyone else know we now have it in case anyone else wants to join the zombie fun! Its a weird game to get a hold of, it sells for £15 - £20 on ebay yet I can easily find it for £10 on a trading app I use. I was really lucky to pick up my copy for £5. Looking forward to playing together!
