In all seriousness, Dice completely fucked up the entire series with BF3 imo. Horrible art direction, lack of integrated teamwork, no mod tools, no battlerecorder, Premium, meatgrinder maps, too much focus on infantry, etc. The list of mistakes goes on and on, and as a result BF3 wasn't really a Battlefield game. For anyone interested in Dice's blatant lies and false ad campaign for BF3, look no further than this guide: The True Story of Battlefield 3, the Battlefield Franchise, Its Community, & EA/DICE

I dunno, I personally felt it was more back to it's Battlefield 2 roots rather than Bad Company, which tbh I didn't really enjoy as much

They were spinoffs, so it's not really fair to compare them to the core franchise. IMO BF3 isn't similar to BF2 in any meaningful way. Sure some of the maps from BF2 make a return, but it's a sequel in name only. No commander, no mod tools, no voip, no maps designed for 64+ players, regen health for soldiers/vehicles, etc. It's lacking all the essentials of a BF game.

Im am sorry MMCC but if it has Battlefield in the title i.e. Battlefield Bad Company then it can and should be judged as a battlefield game. A very "bad" battlefield game made by a very "Bad Company"

Heh, I went back recently and checked out my BF2 stats... I used to think I was good at that game... Turned out my KDR sucked to the highest heavens lol, however I WAS a pretty awesome commander... It's true I do miss that about it... NOBODY got away from my eagle eyes!

Yeah I miss the days when you played to beat the other team... yep.
The perks of winning like unlocking a new gun or something are nice but what kind of comunity needs that kind of reinforcment. IF there is not achievments or something to unlock and prove you did it then there is no point. I guess I was likethat with Goldneye and unlocking all the cheats but I think in the post COD world a game that doesnt have a hundred unlockables just won't be played. It's not about fun anymore.

I think it's something we've grown attached to, although honestly, it's always been there tbh... I'm sure I'm not the only person that set themselves challenges in old games just for the sake of saying you could do it... We made our achievements ourselves

Pretty much this. I would argue argue that over-the-top unlock systems have completely ruined competitive fps. They reward players who sink a lot of time into the game while punishing new players simply for being new. Most of all like you said these games aren't about fun anymore. People play for XP, ranks, and unlocks rather than for any larger team effort. I would argue that developers shoehorn these stupid RPG progression systems into their fps games these days in order to compensate for lack of features or compelling gameplay (BF3 or CoD for example). BF3 at launch was a primary example of this. The game launched in a beta state with a massive number of bugs and there were only 9 MP maps to choose from (most of which were terrible, corridor maps), but of course there was a massive amount of pointless unlocks. In the end, after grinding through almost all the unlocks I can say that it was a complete waste of time. The progression system masked the terrible core gameplay of BF3.

I did like the unlock system in Halo 3 though. It just being armor and all linked to cheevos it didn't effect the game so much when some guy was trying to unlock armor rather than playing to win.
That might be the last multiplayer game I played that didnt have alot of people fighting over kills to unlock a new gun, attachment, camo, etc. I never understood a guy yelling "you stole my kill!" and I would always reply "we are on the same team dude! We both benefit from it.". Kill stealing isnt something I encourage but if you want your team to win you will do anything it takes.

Pfft, I complain about my best friend stealing my kills in Mass Effect 3 multi-player... I'm already top level with my character and gain nothing from the extra xp you're awarded for the kill (Although I still get most of that xp in assist points)... I guess it's just me wanting to be the one that brings about their end

I'm sure I'm not the only person that set themselves challenges in old games just for the sake of saying you could do it... We made our achievements ourselves Completely remove every stat except wins and losses and total points for capping and people will play better as a team. Everyone plays for their stats these days rather than for the team and it's really obnoxious. This coming from someone with a 3.4+ K/D in BF3 lol. And I totally quoted the wrong post. I was aiming this at the post starting with "Yeah I miss the days when you played to beat the other team... yep." lol.

Frostbite 2.1 confirmed: Yay. Looking forward to more lens flair and overdone bloom.
