Well, there it is. I've just ordered a beefy new PC to support my adventures into animation, and it just hit me: I'm about to become a PC gamer - a statement that gives me both a shiver of excitement and a crawling sensation under the skin. As you know, the phrase 'PC Gamer' isn't always synonymous with puppies or flowers or people with great personalities. Was wondering, is anyone here a prominent PC gamer, or just plays PC games a lot? I've only ever had the odd weaselly laptop or ancient monolith of a desktop, so I'm really interested in being able to play the plethora of unique games exclusive to the PC platform. Anyone have any suggestions of what to play first, or some very special games that I should really play as a PC gamer? Fallout 4 is a given though, of course

I'm right with you there, I was mostly a console gamer growing up but now that I'm getting into animation and things like that I don't really have time to play games anymore, mostly just watching LPS at this point. All I have is a Dell laptop myself ATM, so I don't quite live up to the Mustard race standards, But yeah a good series I'd recommend is the Total War Franchise if your in to strategy, and Leauge of Legends if your in to competitive stuff. Also keep in mind whatever games you are looking for usually have sweet mods that are worth checking out.

I'm console exclusive. Mostly. I use my PC for work and if I had game icons on the desktop, tempting me, I would never get anything done. PC exclusives and hard to find console games I play on PC. Notably, my collection of Star Wars games are almost exclusive played via steam. I would go through GOG to avoid the DRM but I got most games though Humble bundles on steam so yeah. Star Wars games like Battlefront II and KOTOR are great. Any RTS like Command and Conquer are good. I think I'm showing my age pretty bad with that one. Total Annialation is good to. Oh and The Sims 3.
I used to have alot of my now PC library on console but stupid teenage me sold them to a used game store when I got bored with them. Now I try to only buy physical copies on console, and only sell if I'm absolutely sure I won't want to play it in a year or two.
So in short, I only play on PC when I have no other choice. I have been plagued my entire PC gaming life with crashes, frame-rate issues and the list goes on. On consoles, as long as the game was built with that particular console/generation in mind, I usually have a much better experience.
I certainly don't want to start THAT argument, but I have noticed games built with a bluray disc in mind (most games today) end up needing a hefty download or major patch work on PC at launch. Not so much the case with AAA console games as of late. The format difference is a problem. Now, run off and find me a few examples of why I am very very wrong. Flee! Flee!

Thanks guys. I think I'll definitely check out the total war games, now that I have the fucking supercomputer you need to run the individual sweat droplets on the thousands of soldiers' heads.
And yeah, might be a great chance to get into those older games. I've really been wanting to play Psychonauts at some point.

PCs are great for MMO's if you're interested in them... I recently picked up an oldish one, free to play, Phantasy Star Online 2... I mostly have nostalgia goggles on 'cus I loved the original PSO on Dreamcast, but I'm enjoying this one, even though half of it is still in Japanese 'cus the English patch isn't fully completed yet (Though it seems they are always working on it)

I think I actually played PSO2 in the days before my PS3 bit the dust. I remember it being interesting, but it was a little bogged down by the sluggish port onto console; the controls were a bit like trying to finger a triple cunted spider who's just a bit too hard to please - by the end of it you just feel unsatisfied, sore, and slightly sticky. And that's not even including the arduous task of typing with the in-game keyboard. These are console gripes, though. I imagine the game would be really fun to play on PC.

PSO2 wasn't on PS3 as far as I'm aware... It was on PSVita though

I grew up a console gamer, and I'm still one at heart, but I am very much a PC gamer now. The reason I was always a console gamer was 3 parts money 7 parts convienience.
When I was a kid, there was no "day one update" or "hardware install required." You just put the game in, and it worked. But today? Shit I have a 4gb update every time I turn on my X1, then the game I want to play has an update, then the fucking CONTROLLER has an update...
On average I spend about 30mins to an hour just WAITING to play my games. And that's on the internet speed I have now. If we were talking just a mere 2 years ago, I would be waiting anywhere from 4-12 HOURS.
Not. Acceptable.
So today's gamersphere isn't much different whether you're talking console or PC. The only barrier one has to overcome with PC gaming is money (and even THAT'S shrinking with new console prices getting greater and greater). PC gaming is without a doubt more expensive than console gaming, but it's also more robust, more powerful, and dare I say it, more user friendly.
Plus, with emulation, my PC has given me access to my ENTIRE gaming library. I'm talking from the NES to the Playstation with the newer consoles very quickly getting their own emulation software.
The X1 can't even give me my XBLA games...

I also grew up on N64, Gamecube, x360, but am now an exclusive pc gamer for several reasons.
It's more cost-effective. I paid about $0.03 per hour that I've played Warcraft 3. In contrast to absolute garbage $60 AAA console games which I neither liked nor played for very long. Plus membership costs for xbox live? Get real.
It's more conducive to strategy games. Good luck playing RTS on console. (Pretty nice try though Halo Wars)
Mouse -> Control sticks for the majority of games. And when you need to use a control stick, just plug in a controller.
And of course there's WAY more exclusives / indies on pc.

Console gaming is cheaper than its ever been, well as long as we arnt talking about Nintendo. Games with Gold gives me five or six games a year that are/were worth $60 when they came out, and the weekly deals with gold has gotten me many games at steal prices. Best part about that is that I KNOW my Xbox can run it and not crash, unlike every PC I've ever owned. Just saying that in my experience, prices are on par, if not cheaper than what I find on PC when it comes to AAA games. As for the Indies, I really wish there was indie marketplace on XONE like on 360. The positive side to that is the few indie games to make it to consoles are usually only there because they are really good.

speaking of console updates, its so weird how many old 360 games still get updates. there have been a bunch of times in the last year that I've played games like dead rising and saints row(nearly ten year old games) and got new updates for them.

Are you sure you haven't cleared your hard drives cache? That will make you have to get an update for each game that needs one.
