Regarding the diagonal aiming and deadzone issue: none of my N64 controllers work. So...yep.

While we're talking about controls they also broke fine aim in the XBLA version. It's so much better on the 64 version.

While we're talking about controls they also broke fine aim in the XBLA version. It's so much better on the 64 version. It was one of things people complained most about at release iirc. 4J addressed the problem in one of the patches with a sensitivity slider, but that didn't really fix it. It's most likely due to the deadzone issue mentioned earlier. I'll make a comparison video later.

I do not recall the directional aiming being an issue at all with the N64. Something happened to it during the port.

Overall, I prefer the XBLA port for one simple reason: the N64 controller is butt. I love that system and its games to death, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt my hands as a kid. But on a more fundamental level, the smooth framerate (which they graciously "patched" with the explosions), leaderboards, and overall authenticity (unfixed glitches, cheese, supafast levels) are what really make it for me.
I'm a bit bummed out by Joanna's new look (she kinda has a monkey face now), as I would have preferred the old art style, and I hate hate HATE but overall, I think the XBLA one is the better version :V

The only problem I ever had with the N64 controller is that it seemed to have a set lifespan of about 2 years. then something on it would stop working.
I don't think people yet realize that marvel that is the Xbox 360 controller. Every console I have ever owned has had me eventually break or wear out the controller, not the case with the Xbox 360. It was said yesterday that the Next Xbox will be using basically the same controller as the Xbox 360 but scaled down a little bit. No idea why it needs scaled down but no gyros or anything motion sensing will be added. Sounds like this all but confirms that we will be able to use our 360 controllers on the new console if we wish. So there it is.

Agreed, the 360 controller is damned awesome. Never had a problem with N64 controllers breaking though; my gold one from 2000 still works perfectly. It was more the fact that I had small hands at the time (for reference, I was about 3 when Super Mario 64 and OoT came out), so hitting the C buttons and stuff were tough for me. Now it's more that the control stick feels odd and uncomfortable to me. Iunno, that's just my opinion on it :V

All my 360 controllers either have slowturn issues or the right joystick wanders a bit when I am not moving them. That's three wireless controllers and a wired one (I use it on PC). Still more durable than the N64 controller which seemed to get broken joysticks after like a week but they could be better. The joysticks are also way too short but I just use FPS Freeks which fixes that.
The shape and everything is perfect, so other than making the joysticks more durable and adding some more buttons they don't need to do anything to the design.
