Time to get this thread going again. Those of you who own the game, what are your thoughts?
I'm about 20 hours in and I've had a great time so far. Gunplay, audio/visual design, and the world itself are just wonderful. The simple act of firing a weapon is so much more satisfying than it ever was in FO3/NV. The audio in general is a gigantic step up from anything Bethesda's ever done; gunfire sounds like actual gunfire both up close and at a distance. I've yet to see much in the way of asset re-usage which is a big plus. Graphically this is one of the best games I've seen in quite some time. Aside from some low-res texture work here and there it's just great to look at.
There have been a few things I haven't liked. For one, I'm not too keen on the removal of armor or weapon degradation. You never have to worry about shit breaking in the middle of battle which makes it feel less survival-ey. In playing on normal I've also found the game to be too damn easy. I just bumped up the difficulty to hard so I'll see if that makes it any better. The AI could use some tweaking too as they seem to have trouble navigating close-quarters environments. On the technical side, had to do a decent amount of tweaking to get a stable 60 FPS; if you're on PC and having trouble, I'd recommend disabling vsync and using Geforce Experience's recommended settings. Been running buttery smooth ever since.
All in all a great game so far with a few odd quirks.

Agreed with all of the above, the game is fantastic and it is a game you have no problem calling "next-gen". If I didn't work full time I am sure I would have put a lot more than 20 hours into it. The weapon degradation was a surprise to me, I couldn't understand why it wouldn't let me repair my gun and then I realized I didn't need to! In some ways I don't mind that they removed it, it was a little silly when you think about it. In the old games you had to repair your gun every 5 clips or so and guns are built to last a little more than that Anyway it is a really small thing, a nitpick really. Have you done much base building? I still only have 5 people in my base, I don't know how to get more.

To get more you build a recruitment beacon... Also there IS a build-cap on the bases, you can only put down so many things (Though on PC there's a mod to remove said cap)
Btw, if you're ever called in to help defend Abernathy Farm, do NOT quick-travel right to it... It put me right in the middle of like, 10 super mutants... That hurt a bit... Though you can change the quick-travel spawn location to somewhere safer if you want

Oh that must be what the "size" bar is, all I have build is a small room with 6 beds and 6 lockers and that Bar is almost full! Yeah I am not sure what MMCC0203 is talking about when it comes to difficulty, the Super Mutants and The Glowing One can be really hard to kill.

Yeah I am not sure what MMCC0203 is talking about when it comes to difficulty, the Super Mutants and The Glowing One can be really hard to kill. I haven't done much in the way of base development other than tinker around with it. It's a pretty cool system. Might be able to take better advantage of it in another playthrough with a character that has better charisma. When it comes to difficulty, I think I might have been over-leveled when I started fighting a lot of Super Mutants. The crazy thing about FO4 is that there appears to be almost no level scaling. You can go into some areas and one-shot pretty much everything or get one-shotted, especially on higher difficulties. I'm not sure Beth has had a scaling system like this since Morrowind and I absolutely love it. Makes Glowing One's, Radscorpions, and Deathclaws in particular pretty terrifying enemies to fight. Got killed in about 4 or 5 hits in full Power Armor in the Glowing Sea from a fucking legendary bloat fly last night. FO4 is most definitely a Bethesda RPG. Anyone who doesn't like the sort of games they make isn't going to like this, but for those of us who do, it's just a blast. It plays out so organically and is so full of non-scripted, watercooler moments. I ran into this cult the other day called the Pillars of the Community; they asked if I wanted to join, I said yes, and the dude I was talking to proceeded to ask me for all of my stuff. Needless to say I changed my mind and wanted out. I had two options: fight them, or pass a hard speech check to get out peacefully. The latter basically wasn't an option since my charisma was 2, but I picked it, and out of sheer dumb luck I passed it. it's little things like that that make this game so enjoyable.

Loads of Blade Runner references in FO4.
In fact, I just got the order to retire a synth. Good thing I've got a trench coat and a pistol I named Deckard. This game's so fucking cool.
