I just wanted to point out a few things.
These deals vary by region so don't hold me to this report.
More importantly. Allot of people are seeing this as Micro$ofts last big cash-in on Games on Demand. Sony announced that all purchased PSN games bought on your PS3 WILL NOT be carried over to your PS4. If Micro$oft plans on doing the same than that explains the big discounts. I pray this is not true for the Next Xbox. I have some $100+ in content on my Xbox 360 I want to be able to play on the 720.
It is rumored that Micro$oft plans on announcing the Next Xbox in either March or April as they have just today, registered domain names that suggest as much.
Anyway, you have been warned.

Hmm. Might try and pick up RDR again if it's cheap enough. Also L4D2 since everyone here has it on 360.

Just wanted to point out the flip side argument. A rumor is going around that Xbox 360 discs won't be compatable with the Next Xbox but Microsoft WILL honor your gamertags digital library, meaning Ggames on Demand and XBLA games will carry over to the new console. Who knows at this point. If there is anything I want hovering around $10 I'll probably pick it up.

MS will probably forego backwards compatibility since the PS4 won't have it. Can't say I'm worried though as I wont be buying the nextbox....unless PD2 is announced.

I felt the same way about the first Xbox and Gamecube then the Wii promised a huge library of all my favorite games from the NES to N64 and backwards compatibility with my Gamecube games so I was sold on that.
The Xbox 360 drew me in with Halo 3 and (at launch) PDZ. It also said it would backwards compatible and was to an extent. There have been some great games this generation and I have hope that the future will hold some great gems as well.
Point: The big difference and the reason why I really, really, want backwards compatibility for the Next Xbox is because this is the first generation that I have wholly invested in. None of my games were gifts and everything video game related I own from this generation was paid for by me. I stand to lose a huge investment due to microsoft.
Ultimately I'm fine with keeping my 360 hooked up and ignoring the Next Xbox. The problem is I shouldn't have to and it's so nice now that my Xbox 360 rules my living room. They only thing that could make it better is a Blu-ray player. The Next Xbox will have one and it's bullshit if my 360 and 720 have to sit side by side below my tv just because I have all these 360 games the 720 can't play.

I can't really see any reason to get a nextbox, especially if your primary concern is backwards compatibility. The biggest weakness for the 360 this gen has been first party titles. Outside of Halo, Gears, and maybe Forza, MS doesn't really have anything else on the first party side of things, and we have no reason to believe this is going to change next gen. In fact, I would argue that it's going to get worse due to the current state of the economy. Devs simply can't afford to take risks on new IP's anymore.
The fact is, multiplats have kept the 360 afloat this gen, and it's clear that the 360 has been the go to platform for devs over the past 7 years. Hell, forget Halo. Call of Doody has been the flagship title for the system ever since 2007. This could however change in the coming years due to the streamlined architecture of the PS4. The x86 processor and APU will make the development process a hell of a lot easier than it was on the PS3. As a result we could see a repeat of gen 6 (Xbox, PS2, GC, etc) where Sony once again has the most viable platform for developers.
Bottom line: The ball is in MS's court at this point. If they don't attempt to rectify their first party problems and match or exceed the capabilities of the PS4 I see absolutely no reason to purchase a nextbox.
Regardless of whether or not any of these things actually happen I still won't be buying any of the new consoles. The gaming industry has been moving steadily in the wrong direction over the past few years. Games are no longer made by gamers for gamers. They're made by huge, money-grubbing corporate publishers for the braindead casuals who want interactive movies instead of games.
Sorry if this came off as a bit ranty and scatterbrained. Can't really think straight atm.

Couldn't agree with you more on the current state of the industry. I have to disagree with you however, on that statement about Call of Doody. Not untill Modern Warfare 2 did Cod become the 360's flagship title. Halo 3 was the killer app for the 360 from 2005 to 2009. Yes 2005. Many people bought the 360 at launch with Halo 3 in mind before anything else.
Ill be getting the Next Xbox for a few key reasons.
My wife is going to want to play the next Elder Scrolls game and if we don't have a 720 by the time it comes out we will buy one just for it. Yeah, she is kind of crazy over that game series.
We want a device that can play Dvds and Cds as well as blu-ray and stream netflix and Hulu. The Next Xbox is all but guaranteed to have all these features.
You never know what the future holds for games and if the Xbox 360 is any indication of the future than I want to experience the next generation. The 360 is a damn good platform for FPS games.

Yeah I guess MW was pretty new and experimental back then, but it's success nonetheless signified the beginning of end for Halo's dominance in the fps market. Also, care to elaborate on the "360 is a damn good platform for FPS games" thing?

"360 is a damn good platform for FPS games"
Well I think the controller is probably the best controller for FPS games I have ever used. Then you have the 360's library of FPS titles like: The Orange Box Bioshock Portal 2 Left 4 Dead Far Cry 3 Rainbow Six Vegas Borderlands 2 Crysis Rage Riddick Halo 3 COD 4 Duke Nukem 3D Doom GRAW Battlefield 3 Perfect Dark

I agree
Xbox/xbox 360 = FPS games (mostly because of the controller) PS1/PS2/PS3 = Football games, racing games, fighting games and survival horror games. (mostly because of the controller) Wii = kids games (mostly because of the controller)

I don't like the playstation controller anymore... Feels too flimsy, as if I'm gonna break it after all my years of Xbox controller use lol
