No offense JMM, but wasn't the Wii U outdated in like... 2007??? I mean it brings nothing to the table technically that my Xbox 360 can't already do. Sure we have the most beautiful Smash Bros., Zelda, Mario to date, but it doesn't play CD/DVD/Bluray, and it carries only the most basic streaming services. The graphics look like they are better than X360/PS3 but nothing near what I have seen being shown on PS4/Xone. Seriously though. All the Nintendo hate aside, I would buy a Wii U tomorrow if they dropped it to under $100 and included a game. If they announce a new console before the end of the year I expect people to freak. Nintendo isnt the kind of company that supports there current gen consoles too far past the next gens release. This needs to happen.

I will admit it doesnt feel much better than the 360 but its much smoother than the Xbox 360 and the controller is way more than a gimmick it works really well.

If this new console is announced before the new Zelda or Hyrule Warriors is released, I'll likely just wait for the new console, seeing as Nintendo actually know how to do backwards compatibility

I see one of three things happening.
1. Nintendo ignores this. Tries to keep this quiet. They make a Wii U focused Nintendo Direct sometime in February and announce the next Zelda for Wii U and reiterate the on how excited they are for Super Smash Bros. and announce yet another Mario game. Maybe New Super Mario Bros. 3.
2. They stay silent until E3. Announce a new console that can actually compete with the next gen consoles ala the Gamecube, (yes the Gamecube was on par in it's day) promise full backwards compatibility with Wii/WiiU titles and controllers, and drop the price of the Wii U to a rock bottom $100.
3. Nintendo goes the way of Sega and the Dreamcast. Sony publishes its first Zelda title in 2016.

If the next "proper" Zelda comes out for anything other that the Wii U or is not playable on the Wii U I can see one thing happening
1. JMM being very pissed off!

Yeah. I dont blame you.
I finally got off of work and watched that video. If Nintendo got a new console out by the end of 2014 with those specs, at a $400 price point it would blow Xbone/PS4 out of the water technically and possibly in sales.
Sure there still wouldn't be 3rd party support but I love the idea of Nintendo being the most powerful console and really writing a love letter to the hardcore audience with a console that recirculates that money they made off the Wii into a quality (gimmick free) 10 year console (much like the PS4/Xbone) that can produce better technical quality then the competition.
People love Mario/Zelda/Metroid and if mind blowing graphics (better than competition) promised with the new console I would see people buying it just for that stunningly beautiful Mario/Zelda/Metroid. Even if that means missing out on the next Halo/GTA/MetalGear.
Flip side: Nintendo has great PR, that sells consoles. What about the Pokemon Bank, Super Mario Bros. 3 on 3DS, WiiU Gamecube Virtual Console titles and all the other things we were PROMISED 18 months ago. Some of which were promised before the end of 2013. What is Nintendo doing?

If Nintendo got a new console out by the end of 2014 with those specs, at a $400 price point it would blow Xbone/PS4 out of the water I disagree with this. Part of the reason Ninty is in trouble (they've been in trouble for a LONG time) is because even casual gamers are seeing that Ninty's hardware and game library isn't up to snuff. It can't compete with the other next current gen consoles. Casuals may bloat any given market/genre for a limited time, but it's the hardcores that actually support the industry. This is why developers like Zynga flourish for a short period of time, and then fade away forever. The much bigger part of the reason why Ninty's in trouble is because they only make the same 2 or 3 games. All. The. Time. Would you like a Zelda or a Mario for the next 100 years?Don't get me wrong, I love Zelda and Mario, but if that's ALL you have going for you...it's not exactly an appealing thought. Hardcores know this and very few hardcores will go out of their way, buy a Ninty console JUST for 2 games (the ONLY reason I have a Wii is because of the virtual console and my N64 no longer works like it used to. That's a huge problem). So I disagree. If Ninty actually managed to make a console that was worth it's weight, it still wouldn't compete because there's nothing to play on it. Nintendo. The champion of shovelware.I realize this is incredibly negative against good 'ol Ninty (and I feel a little dirty saying it since I did grow up on the N64), but truths have to spoken or else we're all just following lies.

Flip side: Nintendo has great PR, I dont think anything will blow Xbone?PS4 water, especially if it only comes at the end of 2014, by then its too little too late. Also that great PR wont be so great when they are trying to sell a console to people who have recently (relatively speaking) just bought a new console from them!

I was talking in reference to the video describing Nintendos' intention to announce a console (I assume sometime this year) that is more powerful than PS4/Xbone. Blowing them out of the water, technically.
Remember there were plenty of people that swore allegiance to the PS3 simply because the graphics were juuuuuuust a little better than the Xbox 360s in many cases.
If they announced it this spring along with full backwards compatibility to Wii/WiiU controllers and games as well as announcing a new Zelda, Metroid etc. I could see this powerhouse console eventually beating PS4/ Xbone in sales like the Wii did this last generation. IF they make it affordable that is.

To what GreanFoyer23 said, the library is crippling Nintendo. They need those 3rd party games and I think releasing a console with on par architecture to the PS4 would really sway publishers to consider Nintendo. Developers already use the copy & paste techniques to develop for Microsoft and Sony consoles and usually have to devote a separate team to the Wii version due to such different hardware. It's not economically viable.
The smartest thing Nintendo can do is release that new console that so similar to the competition that a controller remapping is the only difference between the big three. THEN let the publishers know they are back in the race and want all the big franchises to come out on Nintendo on day one as beautiful and functional as the competitions counterparts.
The best thing they can do now is be like the competition, drop the gimmicks that are making them different and do what they did with Gamecube in providing all the 3rd party franchises featuring comparable graphics and still providing Metroid/Zelda/Mario to draw the fence dwellers in.
I never expect GTA, or Microsoft's exclusives to come out on a Nintendo console but the next Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Need for Speed, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, etc. can if Ninty will let the devs bypass the motion and touch screen controller stuff.
I want BADLY to be able to say again "I'm going to get the (Nintendo console) version over the PlayStation and Xbox versions because they are all the same game graphically and I got the (Nintendo console) because it has all the best games." Like I did with the Gamecube for half it's life cycle.

I know man. I see the rift clear as day.
Half of me wants to say "To hell with the Wii U. Bring on this proposed console that will put Nintendo back on the map".
The other half knows introducing a new console could alienate the remainder of the loyal fans and hurt Nintendos rep even worse.
It's the difference of going down with the ship, or getting on a life boat, knowing there won't be enough room for everyone to come too. I know financially Nintendo could ride this out for the next 5 years. The 3DS is doing great, but I think Nintendo is all but dead in the water with the Wii U and it hurts when Sony and Microsoft have seemingly learned to fly despite a not so clean PR record.
