The next DLC for State of Decay has you playing as military unit Greyhound One, sent to the city of Danforth to rescue scientists and establish a stronghold. You start the DLC as a fully equipped unit and over time, resources slowly and permanently deplete. Once on the ground you secure a Landing Zone where you secure supply drops and build a base. The mission is to rescue and protect the scientists. Keep them in your base and the Zeds out. If too many die, it's game over. That is all we know right now. Sounds interesting. I hope this means more action and base building and less babysitting.

Update: Title Update 5 is coming soon. It adds many things but one announced "improvement" is definitely going to add some realism to the game.
After the patch, vehicles will have an inventory. Depending on the size of the vehicle, you will have so many slots. A rucksack takes up 1 slot. So instead of hauling rucksacks one-at-a-time from supply point to your home base, now you can stuff your vehicle full of supplies and make fewer trips when necessary. Rucksacks automatically unload when you pull into a base parking spot to avoid the tedious back and forth from car to supply crate.
This patch applies to the base game and all DLC. This should make certain zombie death traps (the few places you never want to go back to) a bit more tolerable.

Vehicles having an inventory sounds interesting, it all kind of feels like they are stalling so the can bring the full game to next gen only Do you think they will add new parts to the map?

Well they are adding a whole new map in the DLC. Weather or not they are stalling the fact that they are listening to the community (this feature was the most requested next to co-op) and continue supporting this game 9 months after release is almost unprecedented for a single-player XBLA game.
I have no doubt the next game is an Xbox One exclusive but I'm just so pleasantly surprised at the support SoD is still getting from a dev I thought would be forced by the publisher (Microsoft) to move on to Xbone by now.

Well there be no co-op but a private chat while playing would be fun. Always a good time talking about this game. Great mash up of opinions.

Okay they are showing off the DLC at PAX East as I type this. As soon as the release date drops it'll hit the home page. As for now. Let IGN tell you why "State of Decay: Lifeline is Awesome"... And for good measure, a guided tour of the new gameplay.

Yeah everyone said it was the big city where the next game (SoD2) would take place and that would likely be an Xbox One exclusive.
I know this statement gets tossed around alot but Undead Labs really never ceases to surprise this veteran gamer. They are doing right by the State of Decay install base. I often wonder if the lads begging for an Xbox One version are only on their hands and knees because they sold off there 360 to get next gen. Anyway I hope their bigger budget and partnership with Microsoft doesn't hurt them in them in the long run.

Update: Undead Labs is adding 40 new fire arms to the game for Lifeline. I'm starting to see a trend of following the thematic sets of the Romero trilogy. The base games has you battening down the hatches and setting up base, the 1st DLC has you leaving your base and traveling to avoid danger, and Lifeline had you and a group of scientists establishing a base, armed to the teeth with a clear objective. More so this is looking like an evolution of us as players are going through. We are experienced with this game and Undead Labs is putting guns in our hands and saying "here try this for a change" could really breath new life into this game. I can't wait. Due to possible spoilers I won't list the recently revealed achievements but a list can be found here.

god i really want to play this game but i just cant get into it I didn't think it was all that spectacular either. And it lost a TON of cred with me when they announced they were cutting multiplayer. State of Decay (Class 3) was supposed to test small-scale multiplayer so that the devs would know exactly what to do when developing their "real" game (Class 4). Once they announced that SoD would not have multiplayer at launch, but "shortly after in a patch/update" (but there's still no multiplayer...), the game lost literally all its purpose. Plus, you don't have to take care of your vehicles and you can always, ALWAYS just get another one so....from like 5 minutes into the game I had already won... All in all, wasn't impressed.

But. SoD offered so much zompocalyps stuff that just want present in any other game until then. I've played some of the best and worst zombie games. With Resident Evil you were always an action-savvy person trying to solve a mystery in a relatively enclosed place. The scares were set up for you and it was scary but it was expected. In Dead Island everything was about quests and you could kick most of the enemies to death if you had to. Not much of a threat there.
State of Decay was the closest I ever felt to being in an actual Zombie sim. At times you feel the fear and desperation those people in Night of the Living Dead must have felt. NO game has ever captured that the way SoD has. No, I haven't played EVERY zombie game but I feel confident when saying that I very much doubt any survival horror does exactly what SoD does.

^This is pretty much true. Certainly on console anyway, there is nothing else like it (on console) sure it is screaming out for co op but for now it is the best we have.
I hope we can private chat/play this when it comes out Blade Runner.

Indeed. Yeah, this title is as JMM put it "screaming out for co op" but that doesn't mean it's a bad game without it.
If I had it my way I would section parts of the game off to be single-player only. Looting a house is fun and semi-tactical with a friend but doing it that way takes away from the fear element. Doing a supply run, at night, with a tired character, right next to an infested house, without a vehicle, is about as tense as it gets and one of the most memorable and exciting experiences you can have in a game.
