Well, yeah, but.... Spielberg, Cameron, Nolan, etc. Have all had their name tacked onto movies as being the producer but they all fail to deliver anything worthy of their track record. Doesn't producer just mean they are funding it partially.

So Ryan Gosling will act alongside Ford in Blade Runner 2. Gosling is a great choice for a supporting role to Harrison Ford. If he ended up being the star of the film, I wouldn't be disappointed. He's shown us he can play the strong silent type before, and if hes supposed to be this movies stand-in for a young Deckard type, than I am pleased with the casting choices so far. I would also see a Batty type character coming from him. Time will tell. The opening to Blade Runner 2 has been described by both Scott and Gosling so I'm not sure if the script is final, or if they are already working on getting this thing filmed. Filming officially starts this summer. I'm hoping they shoot for a holiday 2017 release. No reason to fast-track this to meet the summer action movie lineup. Denis Villeneuve is directing. I've only seen Prisoners (2013) from him and from what I've seen, he can do drama and suspense very very well. Based off of the critical reception, if Blade Runner 2 isnt treated like the science fiction action movie it's always advertised as being, it could be a worthy sequel.

Yeah Gosling is a great choice because he might as well be a robot! Don't get me wrong I loved him in beyond the pines but every other movie I have seen him in he looks so bored! I loved Prisoners but I would refuse to watch Blade Runner 2 if it isn't a science fiction movie.

I can't imagine it not being science fiction. I'm worried it could try to be a lot more action heavy.

The director does not worry me as much as the source material worries me. The first Blade Runner was base on a book by one of the best sci fi writers of all time but what will Blade Runner 2 be based on?

I'm hopeful that they take the themes from Blade Runner, and put them in this sequel. That would normally be a death sentence to such a belated sequel, to recycle all the themes, but it's a relatively safe bet that won't tarnish the image of the original, and could maybe even work.
Imagine Deckard displaying the symptoms of death they way Roy did. Gosling, is the best Blade Runner since Deckard and is sent to retire Rachel for some reason unknown to us... the story can almost write itself.
