And for some reason they never thought to reboot the series after RE6?
The plethora of loose ends have zero hope of ever getting tied up. These characters are unrecognizable to who they were in the original games. Resident Evil as an ongoing series is irrelevant.
Who is buying these games anyway? My generation shows no interest. Is it the movies making teenagers interested? It's just so redundant.

Who is buying these games anyway? I have been talking about how COD ruined the gaming industry for as long as I have been on youtube... in fact it was my first video.

Nope, Capcom made a game for COD fans not Resident Evil fans.

Of course I blame Capcom, what I mean is that the success of COD has made more and more developers try and make a game that will sell rather that just making a good game.

It's one of those things. I think the great creative minds of our generation walk among us and very few get a chance to express themselves. To the rest it's just a paycheck. Creative, new, and exciting ideas come and go and they keep making these cookie cutter games like COD, Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed, etc. Because they take pride in being on the credit reel of a product that sells well. In truth, people blindly spend their dollar on unoriginal crap expecting to repeat past success. They do. But can they replicate a golden age?
I don't believe that you can't repeat the past. You can. We must be able to. We'll get it all back someday. Tomorrow we will run faster, stretch our arms out farther...

@saintoffortune2 I think you are taking what I said too literally... how about I phrase it like this. COD 4 was a turning point in the gaming industry when a lot of developers tried to copy its success.

I suppose we were just spoiled by growing up in an era where the new 3d graphics forced many developers to get creative and try new things, and be more unique after coming off of all the 2D platforms. I just really hope our generation sees that someday Nd makes callbacks to that kinda stuff. I want a brand new console fps that plays like Goldeneye because it still holds up today as a more strategic shooter.

I guess the closest I have came to a game like Goldeneye is Farcry 4, I would call it a strategic shooter.

Well I meant more in the vein of objective management. Goldeneye made you play the role of Bond by making you complete a series of objectives within a level in a certain way or order.
In Far Cry you have the choice to assume your own role by being like Bond, Rambo, or even the terminator like in Blood Dragon. The freedom is fun but makes for a more diluted sense of place in the narrative. I know it's practically a sin but a little more linearity with more things to do within that context would be appreciated.
I mean, COD is super linear but all you do is follow a waypoint and complete objectives given to you on the fly. That makes for a lot of things to do but none of them carry any weight. Just press and hold X on the marked spot.
In Far Cry, the gameplay is relatively non-linear but the objectives usually consistent of "go push this button or kill this person on the other side of the map" and the rest is lite role-playing elements that keep you hooked.
Goldeneye started you off in a level with a list of objectives, no waypoints, and set you loose to figure it out.

Goldeneye started you off in a level with a list of objectives, no waypoints, and set you loose to figure it out. You have a pretty good point, I don't know why I never thought about it like that. The only other game that comes to mind is Hitman, each level is a sandbox and you can do it in any order you want. Thanks for bringing that point up.

That's what I enjoyed about Splinter Cell Blacklist because unlike the previous games it would give you a large map for you to complete the mission how ever you wanted whether it was action or stealth. It did remind me more of the Hitman games and I thought they did a good job of it

No problem. Yeah. That's why Far Cry, as close as it it to Goldeneye as far as taking place in modern day with you playing as a lone hero, it just doesn't feel like Goldeneye at all.
What was beautiful about Goldeneye though, is that you could turn on the cheats and assume the role of rambo or any human character. Most close quarters spy games force you into being stealth.
