It's been long expected but it's finally confirmed by a reputable source. Snakes Japanese voice actor, Akino Otsuka has confirmed that Kojima Productions, the studio behind Zone of Enders, and Metal Gear, is closing. This is truly the end of an era. It's a rare thing to see the same studio stay together and consistently produce quality titles for over two decades. What this means for Hideo Kojima and his team is unknown at this time but Otsuka went on record to say: "Kojima Productions was forced to disband, but it appears that the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete, I’m not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece." I hope so. It's usually at least somewhat apparent when things are rock behind the scenes.

While I've never really liked the games that came from Kojima, I have to respect their place in the gaming industry. They were definitely important and Kojima himself is kind of a big deal as far as developers are concerned.
It would be exactly like saying, "I've never played Goldeneye, but I have to respect that it brought shooters to consoles."
I will say, however, that the whole thing surrounding Kojima's dismissal and the shutdown of his dev studio is SUPER shady at best. Konami definitely didn't do it right.

I imagine: "Oh what's that? You don't want to make Metal Gear games anymore? This is the last one? Your Fired!!! Clean out your desk and tell the rest of your studio to come talk to us for relocation."
As bad as it is for Kojima, I just hope all this internal drama hasn't effected the development of the game. Masterpieces seem to come from long periods of artists being given freedom to do what they want with assurance and confidence that their work will be satisfactory. I dread to think MGSV is hobbled because it's completion is Kojimas race to the unemployment line.

What I want to know is, will this mean there will be no DLC for MGSV, will there be no VR missions and will there be any support after the game is launched? It is a strange move to make, at least wait until the game is out before you shoot yourself in the foot!

In ground zeros there is a side mission where you can remove Kojimas game logos in the game. The kicker!? Only games HE actually had a hand in vanish. All other logos remain. Then a voice comes on screen (Kojimas voice) thanking you for all the support over the years!!!!!!! Kojima must have known his days were numbered at Konami. That kinda gives me comfort. That mission is like a little wink to the fans saying "I know this is the end, and I'll be prepared." Also probably just a "thank you" considering it's the last game. Who knows. Maybe he thought he would be fired before he got a chance to finish the majority of MGSV.
