Version 4.2.4. I would write my own review, but this guy pretty much nails all my points anyway.
I'm actually impressed with how far this mod has come. The last time I played with it was in 2008. I made my judgments then, and never came back. It was a user created mod after all and I never thought they would still be working on it nearly 10 years later. It runs very smooth with bots and with a USB to MicroUSB cable I'm playing with an Xbox One controller which makes it control almost exactly like Perfect Dark XBLA. I really, really want a full single-player mode but right now, this is the best version of Goldeneye I have yet to see, besides the N64 version of course. P.S. I know Goldeneye Source is old news, but this latest build is easily the best looking/running I have yet to see.

Because I couldn't figure out how to get this mod without a guide: First, you need the engine. Make sure to install Steam, and once thats done, go to Library>Tools>Source SDK Base 2007 and install that. Once that is installed completely, close your Steam app. Download Goldeneye Source here, click "Download Now" and run it as soon as it's done downloading. Once it's installed, launch Steam again, and Goldeneye Source should show up in your game library. Tip: Have your controller plugged in before you launch the game or it won't be recognized.

Thanks for posting, there are 2 big problems with GoldenEye: Source, one was addressed in the video, one wasn't.
1. The is no single player. 2. The game plays like Half Life 2 (kinda goes without saying) and doesn't "feel" like GoldenEye.
I am working on a little project that will address both problems but it is too early to show anything just yet.

I actually had a really fun time last night.
I pulled the HDMI out of the back on my X360 and plugged it into my pc. I then put my pc next to the tv (displaying 2nd screen only) and played Goldeneye Source for about an hour, essentially using my laptop as a steam machine. Catching a person in the bathrooms on facility just to have a mad panic shootout is as much fun as it ever was in Goldeneye 64. There are achievements in this game so I have something to unlock in my spare time. I don't anticipate spending hours with Goldenye Source but it's better than it's ever been, and I'm pretty happy with it.
You're right that it's not the same, but unless you've played Perfect Dark multiplayer recently, you won't notice the smaller differences. Thats thanks to PDXBLA making playing on an Xbox controller feel natural. By the way, the controller was easier to set up in this game than I've seen in most retail games, and it feels nearly spot-on with Perfect Dark. The sound effects, music, and maps do a great job at making you forget that it is all rendered in Half-Life graphics.
The best part is that it actually runs smoothly, on max settings, and looks pretty damn good when compared to any other imitation including Perfect Dark XBLA. I scratched an itch last night that's been bugging me for the better part of 15 years. I played "Goldeneye" without needing to use an N64 controller, buggy emulation, pay a small fortune, or wait for an official port that will never come. It was fleeting experience but it was beautiful for what it was. I really want to see a single-player option someday.
