Take a look at this article, and you'll be greeted with the lengthy list of nominees for the Game Devs Choice Awards 2016. The conference exists to drag into the spotlight the best and most beautiful games accumulated in 2015, and shower them with more praise than they could carry in their already hefty wallets.
Some of the games in the running for Game of the Year include Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, and Metal Gear Solid V. They span an array of fields tallying the best innovators and best storytellers, and even those with the beefiest texture resolutions. Again, you can find them all here, where I recommend everyone take a glance, if only to add your own personal opinions of which game you think deserves to take home that big glass trophy they'll probably give away.
I'm honestly in strong agreement with a lot of these choices - the games I believe deserve it are sitting proud in their catagories, and there's been nary a mention of any monotonous bottom-of-the-barrel yearly releases throughout! The game awards seem to be increasingly willing to give indie games more time in the spotlight for more reason than being just 'good for an indie game'. Undertale is certainly making a name within this list alone, being nominated for a stunning total of 3 separate fields, and taking its place in another 2 honourable mentions. There does seem to be some controversy surrounding one particular choice, however, and that is 'Rocket League' for Game of the Year. I know a lot of people have been having fun with this game, and while it does boast a deep and complex level of gameplay with a lot of enjoyment to be had, whether it deserves to be game of the year has been pulled into question. One could see its place on the list as merely a result of the 10 million player count the game has accumulated, raking in over $50 million in sales - but really, I think that's just being pessimistic. Rocket League is a brilliant game to play with friends and has definitely deserved its place on any list it finds itself on.
And there's nothing much more to it, only to wait out the 6 more days until the conference begins, and we'll all be able to wave our big "my favorite game won an award" erections round like commemorative flags. What game do you vote for?
...ELITE DANGEROUS... pretty good game not gonna lie...
