Alright Guys I wanted to create a new post to talk about a few things in Regards to the upcoming Joint YouTube channel for Golden Age Gamers. I'd like to be as structured as humanly possible with this. Having Many different types of content from the lot of us. - Reviews
- Perspectives
- First Looks
- Lets Plays
- Twitch Highlights
- Original Series
- Speed Runs
- Podcast
I'd like to get a enough original content to merit this Collaboration Channel. My Personal channel is to small to branch out from it's main focus of "Convention Coverage" and I really want an outlet to share my Video Game Opinion Perspectives. I'd like to have Daily Content, Scheduled Content every few weeks, and once a Quarter Live EVENT Content for Donations, or Charity, or whatever.
So with all that said I would like to serve our channel with my Perspective Pieces Series I call In My Wak Opinion. If you'd like an Example of that you can go to the GEG Homepage and find my Zelda Video there. I have DOZENS of scripts ready and available to create videos. So from there I'll turn in over to all of you guys. Is there anything you'd like to add to this idea? Any type of Scheduled Content? Have ideas for events? Wanna be a part of the Podcast? or wanna do a Let's Play?

Whelp I have me a Twitch schedule, but not really the time to do any editing for highlights or whatever, but hey, if you want to throw me in a video or two I'd be happy to make an appearance =p

I'm down for any podcast. I would do Let's Plays but do we want Let's Plays? Maybe we could do playthroughs of older games because it's impossible to compete with big channels when it comes to new games. I think the focus of Let's Plays should be on games we're knowledgable on so anybody that watches it doesn't have to deal with a crap player and they might even learn something new. I'm thinking of something like JMMREVIEW Turok playthrough. I would do a playthrough of a new game it just has to be one I'm excited for. I think reviews are definitely something we should look into but as I've discovered on my own channel, getting a review out a week later than the game releases is pointless, nobody watches it because they're either burnt out on reviews or already playing the game. I think our reviews should be spoiler reviews, that way we don't have to compete with anyone that gets the game early. Also spoiler reviews done in a group could make for some interesting discussions. Many would agree with me here, imagine if we all made a video together when we finished MGSV? That would've been one hell of a video. For original content, I don't think we should remove content from our channels for it. I think "In My Wak Opinion" should stay on your channel because that's your thing. Personally I think original content on the GoldenEdge channel should be original to GoldenEdge and not be anywhere else. That's why podcasts and stuff like that is awesome. We should be careful that we don't suddenly release a channel that has no uniform. Lot's of people releasing videos for it is great but if every piece of content is different than the other then it's more messy than cool. Thinking about it I think every piece of content on this YouTube channel should include multiple GoldenEdge users (obviously live streams are a bit harder to pull off that way.) That way everything is a discussion between fans, reaction to news, E3, Spoilers and so on. This doesn't mean there can't be solo videos but I think in order to create something unique it should be a group effort rather than everyone adding one or two things and hoping it blends into something nice.

I Agree. The channel needs to be well planed out before we start to sell it at all.
If we are going to focus more on doing as much as possible together, than LPs would be out at least to start. My gaming related pieces are leaving my channel regardless (Or at least wont have any new ones for a bit) so the idea of moving them to the new channel was so they simply had somewhere to be. Do you think it's better to be an Educational type of Channel? because if so we could turn an LP into a Video Walk-through Series. I could even do a "Learning to Speedrun" series where I teach the fundimentals of Speedrunning whatever game I'm learning at the time (I currently know how to Speed Run Megaman 2 Glitchless, Pokemon Red Glitchless, and Tony Hawks Pro Skater any%) So that could be a thing. I don't think every piece of original content should have all of us involved but I do feel we should do as much as possible together as we can.
With a Focus on Education our main competition (I don't like calling them that, but we do need to think of them as such at least in the most friendly of ways) is Game Theorist, Did you know gaming, Extra Credits, and Norm the gaming Historian We have to think of a way to present video game content that's educational and interesting that doesn't scream that we're just ripping off of any of them. Now that doesn't mean we can't cover topics that they have because honestly there's not much in the retro side of gaming we could cover than. BUT we needto be able to do it in a fresh and thought provoking way.
All I can think of is a Podcast where we talk about video game news and such, an informitive Let's Play series that shows how to get through video games, a Clone of that show for Speed Running, and a possible Debate show where two of us argue over a certain topic in video game.
Ideas? Thoughts?

I think solo content is a must but I don't think the focus of the channel should be solo content if that makes sense, I'm thinking of guys like GameXplain they have solo content that feeds into the group content. I don't like calling them competition but I didn't know what to call them. I don't know if this should be the focus, I don't know. Depends on what everyone thinks. Personally when I said that I would like people to learn something new, I didn't necessarily mean like the shows you listed but stuff like, this is a hypothetical example, If I did a playthrough of Resident Evil 4 it wouldn't be me playing and commentating like everyone else it would have strategies, treasure locations, secret cutscenes, alternate bosses and so on. I like the idea of speed running but I don't speed run so that would be up to you if this all goes through. These are all ideas that I agree with because I've wanted to do a podcast or some sort of group thing for a while. This is an idea that popped into m head but how would we do a Let's Play with a guest? Is there a way to share the screen with someone with no/little delay? EDIT I'm working on something right now that I'll hopefully link in a few minutes.

This is a layout test, something I've thrown together in less than 30 minutes. There's a mistake in it on the JMM part the pictures move. Also for some reason the image of the video can be seen at the bottom slightly not sure what caused that but it won't be hard to fix.
Obviously this won't be a final layout it needs to look nice but this is just an idea to get the ball rolling when it comes to the layout.

Nice job on the test MGNoxa as usual I am stuck in work right now so I can't talk for long but I am excited by all of the above. Podcasts are probably be most obvious and most practical start for us, I think it will take us a while to find our feet but initial thoughts are knowledgeable co-op playthroughs would work well too. With a new YT channel don't expect us to get a lot of views at the start, its a long term thing. frankwak I think you will have to wait until you move out and your internet improves before we start any of this?

I like the podcast test, the video in the background could be us playing games too, maybe we can all get together on some PD or something, get it all captured and stuff from different perspectives and have us talking over that... Wouldn't always have to be PD of course =p Also, maybe flank each person's image with the GE logo, like, the G on the left, the E on the right?

Yeah I'm not a designer but GoldenEdge and our names need to be in the layout somewhere. If it's used for a podcast we can go pretty crazy with it but for let's plays (assuming we figure out how to share the screen and it also wouldn't need to be used if it's just two people) it should probably be muted so people can enjoy the game.

Yeah until I move I can't do anything that requires a constant Internet source. But my move should be within the next 60 days so it wont be far away. Until then I think we should focus on what we want this channel to be. Get a good month into Podcasts, and Original Content. as well as content we do together.
As for the Podcast Layout, I would want the footage to reflect what were talking about. For instance if we were discussing E3, we should get some footage from E3, and not just a random recording of a game. I think just having anything up there will be confusing to our audience.
Have any of you guys heard of the YouTube Playbook for brands? it's a think short read of how to make a better YouTube Page for brands like us. I know I sound very corporate about this, but to some degree you have to. Especially at this point in YouTube you have to treat it like a business to get anywhere.
Lastly I think Let's Plays would be better as multi channel Twitch Streams. For instance, if we each recorded ourselves playing a game together. For instance Borderlands. Where each of us are streaming our different sights with our chat as our audio so all four of us can be heard no matter which stream is being watched. I think that would be cool. and we should always take donations for the Website/Channel/It's Creators. and we should have an agreed upon percentage to go to those things. For example.
50% to the Website for upgrades and Domains 30% to the YouTube and Social Media for Advertisements and Equipment 5% to JMM for being a creator 5% to Noxa for being a creator 5% to Frank for being a creator and 5% to Xagan for being a creator
Something like that..
thoughts?

So Frank you are saying you can't take part in the podcasts for 60 days? From chatting to you on Skype I don't think that will work until you get a new connection. I just want to throw one thing out there before we get in too deep, I have a very small amount of free time on my hands. Between working full time, editing the website and my own YT videos I am not sure how much free time I will have. Also my living arrangements will change very soon too.
I am all for a group YT page as long as it is fun and doesn't take us away from or other content. For example I wouldn't want Xargen to have to mess up his stream schedule or MGNoxa to let his own videos slip becasue he has to work on something else. Just saying I want to make sure this is fun and not forced, making content for the sake of making it.

I'm saying it'll be a maximum of 60 Days. a Minimum of 30 or so.
So I guess before we go much further the question comes to how much free time does everyone have? Is this a project that can't be done simply because of time?

Something that could solve some issues here is that in addition to our own channels we could have a community channel where multiple people have the power to post videos to. I am already part of one such channel, Tawdry Troop (though i haven't posted in a very long time). This would eliminate the time issue as we'd have multiple creators working on the same channel and this would also bring the group together as having group videos on one channel will save viewers a lot of leg work.
Plus you could always plug your own channel if you wanted to as well.

Right Greenfire, a GoldenEdge Network of sorts. I would love for us to try to do some podcasts, and actually collaborate as a community.
A big part of what GoldenEdge is, is not being too structured. A year ago I was pretty much the only person updating goldenedgegaming.com. Greenfire, Xargen, Foof, did their part to promote this website through their streams. That was great. We all got to do our own things in our own time and we have attracted a great bunch of people in the last year from our work.
Right now we have more people that ever, working on the site which gives everyone alittle more room to breath and that accessibility is a big part of why I think GoldenEdge is such a great idea.
So... If they announce a new Battlefield game tomorrow, whos gonna cover it? We need to know who cares? If the answer is "nobody" then that's fine. GoldenEdge Gaming is defined by it's gamers and their interests.
I would love for us to have a consistent flow of shows, stream highlights, podcasts on a GoldenEdge youtube channel, but if we are all still gamers that love video games, we should be talking about what were passionate about and what matters to us.
