Easily one of the best and most succinct explanations of Blade Runner's greatness.
If you enjoyed this watch some of his other vids. He's one of my favorite subs on YT.

I have to agree with you JMM. This guy is overanalizing the film and I think he's missing alot of points and messages. He's one of those realist nerds that would sooner disect something he claims to love so he can know all there is to know about it rather than stay distant and admire it's beauty. He is entitled to his opinions but I don't agree with a mojority of them.

He is entitled to his opinions but I don't agree with a mojority of them. Over-analyzing? What the hell? There is no over-analyzing Blade Runner. It's an extremely ambiguous film that means different things to different people. Since when is it a crime to attempt to rationalize something a person happens to like? It's ridiculous to attack somebody simply for having a different interpretation of something that is inherently open to interpretation. Also, in case you didn't watch the whole thing he throws in a disclaimer stating that he didn't cover many of the points and messages present in the film. He never at any point claims he knows "all there is to know" about Blade Runner. You've got to be kidding me with this post. You're entitled to disagree with his interpretation. However, you can't simply label someone a "realist nerd" or throw out any sort of insult without proper reasoning. You're ad homming him instead of giving specific reasons why you disagree with his interpretation. Please be more specific. Otherwise you're just generalizing.

Sorry if I came off as angry in my last post. I'm a bit on edge right now and I'm kind of passionate about this sort of stuff.

It's all good man. It's good to see passionate fans of Blade Runner.
I don't think everything in the film was deliberate. I agree the movie is very loosly based on the novel. I think The Final Cut is the "real" movie. It is the real Ridley Scott Directors cut anyway. I do not agree that the theatrical voice over was crappy or that the ending was stupid... okay the ending was stupid put the voice over had it's perpose in what it was. The movie was not made by Americans for Americans. Decard can be seen by the general public as the sole protaganist of the film but to many hardcore fans this simply is not true.
This guy has some neat theorys but they are just that, theorys. I think if Scott was asked if there is some underlying symbolism or subliminal messaging then he would deny most of what this guy is saying. Sorry for my spelling. I'm using my tablet right now.

Oh the realist nerd comment isnt an insult. It's the kind of guy that knows more about Harrison Ford's career because he played Han Solo than the extended universe cannon of the character Han Solo.
If I claim to be a huge Batman fan and have seen every one of Christian Bales movies but don't know jack about the comics I am a realist nerd in that I know tons about the movie and very little about the fiction.

Everything is deliberate This would mean that nothing was ever improvised.... Also if EVERYTHING is deliberate then why are there so many versions? did they deliberately not know what was the right thing to show in the movie?
In the upper world everyone is white I really disagree with this part of the video What is it even suppose to mean? Dont try to tell me for one minute the people (I say people because no one man had the final say for everything in the movie) wanted to make a point that only white people are rich in the future! I wont have that said about blade runner!
The ascent of Roy Batty I must have missed this part of the movie he isnt trying to become part of upper society, the analogy with postcolonialism doesnt fit no matter how much he twists it. Also Roy didnt see Deckhard as a companion or kindred spirit, he loved life and didnt want to see it wasted so he saved Deckhard. Roys last words are hard to understand This is because its not meant to be understood! A lot of his final words were improvised by Rutger Hauer (yes the tears in the rain line was improvised)
I liked some of the video but I think I disliked more.

I also like to argue that Batty saved Deckard to also preserve his last instance of selfishness. He knew he had hours if not minutes to live and wanted to share his more treasured memory's in hope a part of him would live on.
