I thought I would share some of his work if anyone would like to discuss it I am all ears La Trahison des images (Ceci n'est pas une pipe) The treachery of images (This is not a pipe)This was the first painting to use text to express the message, might not seem ground breaking to us now but it was back then. "This is not a pipe" why not? because it is of course a painting. The blank signatureSon of ManThe Human Condition

That is very good JMM. The ideas presented in these pieces are more prominent in today's entertainment than ever before. The symbolism present is reflected allot of movies I've seen in the last decade or so. I don't know if people are trying to be artsy or say something but thought i would point that out.
I love early/mid 20th century art. It feels old and original but absolutely relatable and understandable. Dali, Picasso, Matisse, and even Warhol. The worlds these people came from were not destroyed or evolved beyond sheer relevance. That just how I understand it. I can still talk to people who were alive at the same time and is fasinates me.

I couldnt believe that Warhol only died in 1987 that was the year I was born! It is very strange to think it wasnt that long ago and then all of human history as taken place in 0.1% of the earths life time.
Anyway I think I will post up a new artist each week.

Great idea. Just wated to reiterate that I knew people, my grandparents, that came from the and saw the same things these great people saw. That instantly makes it more relatable and interesting to me than something from say, the renaissance. I know how vain that is but I think too many people don't recognize the history around them. The history being made right now.
Many people look back and think "oh to be alive when Mozart was composing" they don't see some of the few things that we have that will survive hundreds of years after we are long dead. Michael Jacksons Thriller, James Camerons filmography, JRR Tolkiens books. Say what you will about these things but it's things like this we don't recognize as greatness till it's too late to enjoy it. All these people walked the earth in our, or our parents lifetime and it's a fool who thinks the only good day was yesterday.
Semiofftopic JMM, did you ever see the movie Midnight in Paris? If not, check it out. One of my favorite movies.

I had never even heard of this movie until now, thanks for the heads up it looks like it would be a good movie to watch with my girlfriend The trailer reminds me of Stanley Kubrick's Eyes wide shut. To address the whole people were alive at the time thing, nowadays people would rather watch a movie/documentary about something instead of actually talking to someone who was there. Then again if you know anything about selective attention you will know that eye wittiness will often be wrong www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/But-Did-You-See-the-Gorilla-The-Problem-With-Inattentional-Blindness-165589646.html

The trailer makes it look like a romantic comedy. My wife said she wanted to go see it in the theater. I thought she had lost her mind for dragging me to some forgetable romcom trash. As it turned out, she wanted me to come because she thought I would enjoy it more than her. While romance is present it's more about nestolgia and well... everything I said in the posts above. Great film. Check it out.
On topic sorta: It's a give and take situation between going to see a person who lived an event and just watching a documentry about it. I find seeing a person is a bit more human and personal while you get more information (hard facts) from a documentry.
