New Xbox 360 update planned ahead of next Xbox release this year.So basically this update will allow people playing on Xbox 360 to interact with people playing on the Next Xbox simultaneously. This is an interesting idea and might be a great way to ease people into the next generation as apposed to past generational transitions where once the new console was released, the current gen console would slowly lose support. The idea of the Xbox 720 as merely being a graphics upgrade and a blu-ray player would give allot of hardcore gamers with little spending money (me) a piece of mind knowing that they don't have to go buy a new console ASAP due to there current console becoming the equivalent to a sinking ship. Micro$oft has hinted at plans of releasing a $150 model of the Xbox 360 along side the Next Xbox so there is a bit of believability to this wishfulness. Hoping that this is some form of backwards compatibility confirmation and that we can actually play games online between 360 and 720. That would be a brilliant move by Micro$oft.

I could see Sony doing this, since they did...with the PS2 and 3.
Microsoft though? Idk. They're kind of the EA of the gaming industry...

Well even EA will someday have to open their eyes and see what the consumers want or else take massive hits to their profit margin

Sorry to crash the party but I am pretty sure you could just chat to people on next box I can see it being possible to play with them. It would be like one person playing resident evil 1 and the other person playing the resident evil 1 remake.

I don't know the technicals of it all but it's a great idea.

Sorry I misunderstood the post, no that's a good point I hope its true I thought you meant a new cod game came out and was released on both 360 and 720 we chose to buy either version and everyone would play together (one with good graphic one without)
This might mean the I could buy a 720, download PDXBLA and play with someone on the 360. The is would be cool just have to wait and see.

Case ClosedDue to the Xbox One having vastly different architecture, Xbox 360 and Xbox One can not communicate with each other. Microsoft doesn't plan on dropping support for the Xbox 360 anytime soon but one can assume the 360's days are numbered now. Wishful thinking I guess. This thread can die now.

My friend told me yesterday that someone told him that support for Live for the 360 will be stopped at the end of 2014, but I don't see that happening tbh

They also kept the original Xbox online support going for about 5 years after the 360 came out
