Wow that footage brings back so many memories. What a great game.
As much as I want a new Timesplitters game it's gotta be just right and I'll beg, donate money, whatever it takes to make this a game play like the PD/GE/TS heavenly trilogy of franchises that where created from this engine.
It's gotta play like those games. No ADS, no regenerating health, no checkpoints. Okay, maybe those last two things on lower difficulties. It essentially needs to be a throwback to that style of FPS and needs to reflect it in so many ways. But more than that, I want this to be an official release on consoles. I'm up to my ears in emulators full of GE/PD/TS mods.
I want a single player. Like in Perfect Dark. I have started playing it recently with my wife and she is really digging it. The narative, the sneaking around and shooting guys through doors and the like. I can see why that's fun and I want more of that becasue It can't be found anywhere else on the consoles I own right now.

I'm still not sure what to think of this
On one hand, I'm just excited that a new Timesplitters game is being developed. On the other hand, we likely won't have a fully-featured game for 3+ years since modders are developing it. Without the funding/resources of an actual game studio there's no guarantee this will ever get off the ground.
I'm also worried about the game itself. It's looking/sounding more like a simple multiplayer mod instead of a standalone, total conversion experience (aka a new game). Sure the MP was a big part of the original trilogy, but that was only a small portion of what made TS awesome. Other great features included SP campaign, split-screen support across every mode, campaign coop, arcade mode (like combat challenges in PD), tons of wacky challenges that often had nothing to do with combat (example down below), stat tracking, and full bot support just to name a few. Overall It's looking like a multiplayer-focused rehash of the original trilogy that seeks to emulate only one small aspect of what made TS great, at least IMO.
In conclusion, I'm pretty skeptical about this project. I like that they don't have a giant corporate publisher breathing down their necks pressuring them into making a CoD clone, but at the same time I'm not sure modders can actually make a proper TS game. It's also pretty lame that console players are going to get the shaft on this. Unless this mod becomes a proper game and is a huge hit on PC, it won't be coming to consoles anytime soon. That's ridiculous when you consider the fact that console players were the ones who supported the franchise in the first place.
