Okay so everyone comes to me with there computer problems right? My brother in laws girlfriends craptop took a crap on her, go figure. The processor is fried and she went ahead and got a new laptop. Done deal.
I told her "sure. We can pull the hard drive out of the old laptop and transfer all the stuff on it to the new one." Ooops. I have no idea what I need to do that. I'm sure that internal hard drive probably doesnt hook up with standard USB and the laptop it's connected to won't boot up. So I cant click and drag to a USB like I normally would in this situation. What do you guys think I should do here.

Open the craptop, take out the hard-drive, swap it into the new one, save wanted files somewhere (USB or external hard-drive or something) then swap the new hard drive back in and voila... Though doing this negates the warrenty, soooooo yaknow...

Yeah that's the issue. Doing surgery on a new $400 laptop could freak the buyer out. Yes. I gotta do this in front of them too.

What you could is take the old hard drive install it on your desktop then transfer the files you want from the old craptop hard drive though the computer onto a extrenal drive or USB then Onto the new one.

Yeah if you've got a pc with enough slots for another harddrive, just temp wire it to that and transfer all the files onto either a real external HDD or enough disks (blu rays hold a lot more than dvds if you've got the burner). From there it's as simple as moving files onto the new craptop.
Now, you may want to make sure that your computer boots up from your HDD and not the craptop's since they'll both have an OS on them.
