Hey guys, as some of you know I got the privilege of going to Denver Comic-Con this year and among the between the abundance of comics, cos-players, panels, and celebrities I found myself in the place I truly belong, a little corner of the convention center dedicated to video games. Of all the games I got to play one stood out more than all the rest due to it's polish, it's mechanics, it's developers, and most of all it's undoubtedly fun multiplayer.
This is Zen Pathz.
The game itself is a variety of different game modes like capture the flag, race, tournament, etc. where you pick what side your on (between the light and dark) and start the game. You can match any combination of four total players with a Drop-In/Drop-Out option so there's no hurdles to jump in order to join a game in progress. Once a match starts, it doesn't take long before your in a pulse pounding race for victory. The fast paced and floaty nature of movement means your always just a little out of control without ever feeling like your out of control. It's the nature of the game to get you excited and a total blast.
Something that really grabbed my attention, was the level creator. I didn't get any hands-on time with the option but judging by the quality of the developer created levels I could see this opening the game up to a sand box full of nearly endless possibilities on the 2D plain.
In the few hours I got to spend with these guys it was clear that they were passionate about what they were doing and above that, they were nice, and outgoing people. You could tell they not only wanted to make a fun game that people could play together, but on some level, wanted to bring people together through this game. Any seasoned gamer will tell you that's the mentality the best multiplayer games are founded on. A good start.
I really hope we see Zen Pathz on Xbox Live Indie Games sooner rather than later because it's apparent even with the short time I had with the game, that the developers ambitions are coming to light in big ways. Stay connected to Goldenedge Gaming for more information as development continues and follow us on Twitter at GoldenEdgeGamin for updates.
