I'm excited for this remake if only because it confirmed that Resident Evil Remake (my favorite of the series) isn't at the mercy of Nintendo when it comes to getting released on newer consoles.
JMM makes a good point on resident Evil 2 though. I kinda elude to how Resident Evil 1 and 2 are like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. It's arguable which one is better. They both have strengths and weaknesses the other one doesn't but they are both great and deserve preservation.
Resident Evil 2 deserves a remake more than any game I can think of. It only stings worse that as far as we know, there is no legal barriers or any reason whatsoever why it hasn't happened yet.
As for the Wii version. I played through it a couple months ago and it holds up as well as ever. Even just using the Wii Remote tilted like a NES controller it's still the very playable haunting experience we've known and loved for 12 years. However, if they can do this right and make those pre-rendered backgrounds not look so obvious on a HDTV, than I support it 100%.
Edit: Thanks for keeping up with the important news. Goldenedge broke this news before IGN, Joystiq, etc. Very good.

Res 2 is just an evolution of Res 1, I dont know if you remember my Resident Evil 1 and Origins of Survival Horror video but I talk about how a lot of what was in Res 1 wasnt original or unique, the same can not be said for Res 2. Which game is better? its a pointless conversation, they are both classics but my favorite is Res 2 partly because there is nothing else like it.

Looking at some screens for the remaster: I hope they don't either make places too light or dark. They could screw up the atmosphere really easy. I think I'm not liking that they keep snapping the screen's during the lightning flashes making the graphics pop out. Expecting a trailer this weekend.

I hope they don't either make places too light or dark. The problem with HD is that you get a much darker black, this is something I addressed in my Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X HD Tribute I fully expect the same problem to occur.

Well it would be nice if they took care to not make the HD effect the gameplay by making need to see spots impossible.
The problem with Code Veronica was that it needed way more love and attention, instead of the lick of HD paint it got and the shovel to the marketplace next to RE4 which Capcom were hoping would.... I got it...
Code Veronica HD was so dark because it was living in RE4HDxRemixs shadow.

All joking aside. I love it that going back to the Resident Evil website is like going back to 2002. They talk about REmastered like it's a brand new game and I love feeling like we're still on the tail end of the golden age of survival horror.

I wonder how much this HD remaster will sell for? I find it interesting that with the rarity of a new (sealed) copy of the Gamecube version starting at $60 and now hovering around $80+, what a digital and supposedly superior version would go for.
It's absolutely wonderful that they are doing this and knowing that REmake isn't a Nintendo exclusive destined to be considered by Nintendo as a waste of time to never seeing life off of the Wii is too great for words.
It really takes me down a river of nostalgia and that's after replaying this game just a couple months ago on Wii. This is one of the best games the Gamecube had to offer and came out in a time when the Gamecube was still a major contender against Xbox and PS2 and it's hard not to appreciate it's significance. It was a special Gamecube exclusive, and it's going to be strange paying less than $20 for an HD version with achievements when I've so long considered this game one of those like Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes or even Goldeneye 64 that will always be considered great, but not by future generations that won't get to experience it the way we did.
Lots of people are looking at this and asking "Why?" or reacting with a "Meh" like they have played it to death and are sick of it but in truth, this game although a remake, defined by an entire genre. It's a little mind blowing that Resident Evil Remake is coming to Xbox and PlayStation.

I have to agree about it being mind blowing I thought it would be on the GC/Wii forever, hell my mind is still blown by Perfect Dark being on Xbox 360! If it cost any more than £15 it will not sell well.

Agreed. I might even be hesitant if I have to lay down $20 for this game and that's saying something considering its on me top ten list. It's just I've bought this game twice, and played through it about 8 times in the last 12 years. While I WILL eventually buy it, it's gonna take quite the gaming dry spell for me to get it day one for anything over $15.

I completed it a few months ago so I am in no rush to play it again Also I have just preordered Alien Isolation to get the DLC and I will get The Evil Within on day one so I will soon have no shortage of survival horrors to play!

Nobody is getting kicked out.
Like the horror movie genre, it seems you either love it or just don't really care about it. I've actually heard guys in the game store say they won't play Resident Evil Remake (this was in 2002 mind you) because they had a bad experience playing the original in the dark. They ACTUALLY dread playing these games and I love that feeling. It's like a roller coaster. Something in your gut tells you that whats happening is dangerous but it's relatively safe and that's what makes it fun. I live to watch films like Dawn of the Dead, The Shining, and even something as silly as the Child's Play films. If you don't know what those last ones are than you obviously not quite the enthusiast I am. Watching films is one of my greatest comforts.
Not to get off topic but I just want to say that it's SOOOOOO great that a majority of games are coming to X360/PS3 this (and next) year. I was really concerned that 2015 would be the year I would be forced into getting a next-gen console just to keep up with my favorite series but other than the Arkham series, I've been very pleasantly surprised by how "smart" developers are being by catering to the huge number of gamers still playing last gen.
I love Resident Evil because it blends perfectly, my favorite movie genre with my favor it hobby.
