I kinda like Cloud Strife solely because people call him a whiny baby 'cus he get's pretty upset in Final Fantasy 7... But I've always seen it as kinda justified... I mean, he's "hired" as a bodyguard for someone who he starts maybe getting romantic feelings for, just to almost kill her himself due to some form of control exerted on him by his long-time childhood hero turned crazy villain/rival who he's suppressed traumatic memories of, then gets his world turned upside-down as he's informed he's a sort of clone-experiment who's /made/ to be drawn his nemisis due to forces suppsoidly beyond his control... I mean, how are you meant to take all that? Shrug and say, "oh, ok" and carry on without flinching?

Link (Before OOT) I want to be clear. Every post- Zelda felt more like a proper Action/Adventure than the soft-RPG that was the original "retro" zelda series. I just think it would seem like too much of a cheap cop out to answer any "best of" question where Zelda qualifies with Zelda. If we were arguing about this I would want to be clear that this is about old Zelda games as RPGs and how we actually felt like Link having an adventure in a fantasy world, more than we did in N64 onward. Credit where credit is due.
