hotline miami is one of my favorite games of all time and IMO it's up there with doom and the tony hawk series on the list of games that feel amazing to play however the same can't be said for its inferior sequel. the problem stems from the fact that hotline miami 2 is a bigger game than the first and bigger doesn't necessarily mean better, in the first game you were encouraged to go for high scores and get an a+ ranking and the only real way to do this was to burst through areas trying to kill all the enemies quickly and stringing together a combo and having a plan on how to clear a level actually succeeding is immensely satisfying and while you can die in one hit so do your enemies but death didn't become a major problem because the levels aren't that big but in hotline miami 2 levels are large and often you find yourself getting gunned down by somebody off screen and instead of being about creating a big combo by going headfirst into danger and risking death its more about playing a glorified game of peekaboo where you lure enemies around corners and it's very boring. also a great combo killer are the fat enemies who need to be shot in order to die and that would't be so bad if ammunition wasn't scarce when these guys are around and that also wouldn't be so bad if for some your character didn't feel the need to throw whatever weapon he/she is currently holding instead of strategically putting it down where you can get later and if its a gun it will lose some ammo. overall hotline miami 2 is a great example where less is more and by making this game bigger and longer it thows away the reason why people loved the first game.

I think Foof811 is a big fan of the first one, I don't know if he played the second one. As someone new to it should I just play the first game?

if you have means to play it then i would highly recommend it as it on cost tens dollars although it is only avaible on pc and ps3/ps4 but I doubt its a very demanding game on pc.

I love the soundtrack though. I'd definitely say play the first one and skip the second one though. Hotline Miami 2 left a lot to be desired, but Hotline Miami 1 has the benefit of having the initial charm.

Still better than this:
I loved the original. It was like Portal in that it was a short but very sweet experience without any filler. From what you're saying it sounds like this one's a bit more drawn out and tedious, and if so that kind of sucks. Still thinking about giving it a shot after I get bored of KF2.

if hotline miami 2 were a $60 game i would be hesitant to recommend it but it only cost a mere $15 and while i have a lot of problems with it i would still recommend it over most stuff major publishers have been vomiting on to store shelves so far this year.

If all you have is $15. I'd suggest you get "Westerado: Double Barreled" on Steam. Really fun retro western game.

If all you have is $15, you could probably afford a decent amount of alcohol

Okay so I think I will just add hotline miami 1 & 2 to my wishlist on steam and wait for one to go on sale and in the meantime I will buy some alcohol.

You aren't missing anything, I would pick games over alcohol any day! Can you imagine joining an alcohol forum and talking about alcohol all day? How boring would that be!
