Hello, this is a rewrite and I'm going to tell you my first impressions of ARMA III
So I recently got access to ARMA III on Steam, I'm disappointed with it.
Note: I had a 48 hour trial, but I only played 3 hours of the game before uninstalling it.
So with all that done....on to the First impression.
ARMA III
So I installed and booted up the game raring to go, the launcher opened up and I clicked the play button 20 seconds later no response so I clicked it again a few more times, 3 versions of the game opened up and nigh on crashed my computer so I opened up TaskManager and attempted to force quit the games...no response, after many clicks later and slightly annoyed I managed to close the game.
I pressed play again and this time got into the game after ignoring the tutorial I attempted to start the SinglePlayer, It harassed me again, so I did the tutorial at the start of the tutorial I was told to open my compass so I opened my compass now it was explained to me that the number's above the North, West, South, East where my bearings or at least that's what I took from it, now I was meant to shoot targets with him calling out bearings of where they're at, I had not a bloody Scooby as to where these targets was and had to wait for the game to tell me, I finally finish the training course.
FIRST MISSION.
So the first intro mission starts off with a helicopter tour basically, showing you the wonderful scope of ARMA III that was when I noticed my FrameRate was a bit choppy, so I went into settings and what do you know it's auto detected and decided my PC should play it on ultra so I'm getting around 20 fps, alright buff it down to high, buff it down to high still getting 20 frames, okay medium still getting 20 frames, okay low now I'm getting 50 to 60 well this is good I can work with this.
So my helicopter tour finishes and I'm dropped off into the field, an NPC talks at me for a bit then I get to drive an Armored Vehicle around patrolling, not used the the way vehicles handle yet hit a rock automatically totaling the car mission failed, do the same bit where the NPC talks at me, then get into the car take it steady down the road till I see a military checkpoint try to stop and accidentally run over a soldier "MISSION FAILED" back to the same bit with the NPC talking at me...I promptly said fuck doing that again lets go play MultiPlayer.
FIRST MULTIPLAYER SESSION.
So after scrolling through the servers looking for one where I got a decent ping and had a decent number of players I finally found one, okay right now we select our team, yep now play....play.......play......play.... nope nothing right well this server's probably broken let's join another, scrolling some more found another server actually get in this time, first thing I notice is that I'm getting 20 frames again so I go check the settings still on low, right okay what's going on now, eh why not turn them up in this case went through all the settings twenty frames on all, it kinda speaks to me that the game is poorly optimized anyways after resetting it to low I finally started doing some PVP.
Okay now I select my soldier's LoadOut and the first thing I hear is some annoying little child screaming that some guys a hacker while calling him all the names under the sun, right now's time to move in and lay down some suppressing fire so my team can move up, move 2 steps get shot by a sniper...well crap I need to keep low, crawl past the sniper get into the town bullets blazing people spraying left and right annoying little child still screaming at people "I wanted to cut this child's vocal cords out by the end of the match" I attempt to run into a building press SpaceBar to open up the door end up switching my weapon after switching my weapon 3 more times I finally get him to actually open the door, only to be greeted by Captain.LMGPRICK whom in which preceded to spray bit's of me all up the wall from his little corner of the room, I was not amused.
After that match ended we started a new one, this match we would instantly be pinned down by the enemy after getting a couple kills and dying a fair few times I decided to climb up a ladder at the top of the ladder I noticed a familiar glitch where you character keeps climbing his height of the ladder, and that's when it hit me and started jumping around in my head like the annoying child's voice in my last match.
THIS IS ARMA II WITH PRETTIER GRAPHICS AND A MASSIVE SYSTEM STRAIN.
that's when all the alarm bells went off.
Ladder glitch *check*
Clunky controls *check*
Poor optimization *check*
annoying campaign *check*
terrible server browser *check*
the list goes on and on so that's when I sat and said to myself why would I buy ARMA III for £30 when I can get ARMA II and all it's DLC for just £3.99 "it was on sale at the time" and that's when I uninstalled ARMA III and took it off of my wishlist and said if I'm going to get an ARMA game I'll get ARMA II for cheaper and it's basically the same and It won't try to kill my PC as badly.
so yeah that's my first impressions of ARMA III tell me what you think!
