i know that alot of this site is dedicated to video gaming, but i am still fond of the pen and paper rpg. right now i am writing a new campaign to use with the newest edition of dungeons and dragons, and i got curious if there were any here who like the old school ways of rolling dice, and if there are what are your favorite systems to use and favorite moments from past games?

The only board game I have played that would even come close to D&D was the Space Hulk games with a buddy of mine. I know that is nothing like what you have asked for but I thought I would throw it out there anyway

The closest thing I ever got to D&D was something my friends and I used to play called "Dungeon Master" (name inspired by D&D obviously).
Basically one of us was designated the "Dungeon Master" and was tasked with building scenarios within Gmod. Particularily involving the Carter Addon Pack and supported maps (Stargate).
So while it was played in a video game, and the "dungeon" was updated in real time (the dungeon master could play at the same time or play as a non-interactive map editor), it was kind of like D&D. Heck, I still have some of my own scenarios written on paper around here somewhere...

I really never got into the table top stuff. I dabbled in Magic and Space Hulk but that kind of social experience bores me to be honest. Those pen and paper RPGs are just too easy to cheat at and it kinda breaks that game expereince. The social interaction reminds me of some cousins.
They are really into World of Warcraft. i know that's a video game but, it's a social experience first and foremost for them, like a facebook game. Nothing at all wrong with it but I'm about as introverted as they come so gathering around a table to play a game that you have to constantly interact with a group of people just doesn't appeal. I usually end up being the guy at the table that gets ganged up on because i don't understand the game or my attempts to be social brand me as an immature weirdo.
Every time I walk into a brick and mortor game store that host competitions and the like it's primarily table top stuff. I would love to see a place that hosted parties for games like Quake, Street Fighter, COD, Halo, Perfect Dark etc.

I always really wanted to have a DnD group, but could never find a group
Maybe we should do some DnD style gaming over skype or similar sometime
