Yeah we set up a crew a long time ago when R* was using heists to sell pre-orders for GTAV :/ (I'm still burnt by that, yes)
I have the game for the X1 and I've only done the first heist, so I'm down whenever.

I've done my first heist and two parts of the setup for the second... Starting the second heist costs $40,000, so if I were you I'd hold onto the money from your first

Yeah we set up a crew a long time ago when R* was using heists to sell pre-orders for GTAV :/ (I'm still burnt by that, yes) I'm with you greeny. This is why I refuse to buy the Xbox One version at full price. I would rather play the few games I have than re-buy a game that inadvertently set a trend were seeing in games like Assassin's Creed Unity, Halo, and most recently Arkham Knight. GTAV is still arguably the best game on the XONE/PS4 and I bought the 360 version on the promise that I would get to rob banks with my friends online. I poured 60 hours into it the first two weeks, and then was stopped dead in the water when the online issues made it impossible for me to play. By the time I was able to get online, everyone seemed to have lost interest, and it still took a year before the heists were available. In a way they have launched this game 4 times, last gen, current gen, Heists, PC. Even the greatest of games, can only fool me so many times. I budget myself in this hobby so that it doesn't put me in the poor house, and as arguable as it may be, I didn't feel the base game was worth my $59.99 when I was promised so much more.

Outside of them briefly mentioning heists in the GTA Online trailer, I don't recall R* really bringing them up in the lead-up to GTA V's launch. The star of the show in terms of marketing material was very much single player from what I remember. Hence all the posters like this showing the main characters:

Actually they advertised Heists on GTAOnline as being a standard feature. It's a big part of what sold me on the game in the first place.
"Grand Theft Auto Online is a persistent multiplayer open world game, full of excitement and adventure at every turn. It's not just gun heists and carjacking these days... jump out of planes over beautiful vistas or arm wrestle a gangster in the back alley, it's all up to you. What path will you take?"

Right, that's the video I referenced. As I said they briefly mentioned heists, but they never really went into detail about them or explicitly said they'd be available at launch. Personally, they were never a major selling point for me. The appeal of these games has always been their single player, and V was no exception. At this point I don't understand why some are still bitter about heists. It's pretty clear R* had to iterate and go through many phases of re-design to get heists to the level of quality they wanted. Stuff doesn't work the way the designers planned sometimes; things get delayed. That's just how game development goes. I'd much rather a developer take their time and get the launch of their content right. It's pretty clear R* fucked up with GTA Online in some ways, but they made the right decision in delaying heists IMO.

Well it's entirely possible that Nazi Zombies won't be available in Black Ops III at launch, but that's not stopping them from advertising the game like it will in an effort to boost pre-orders.
They made the WRONG decision in advertising GTA Online the way they did:
The problem I see here is that they were adverting the promised concepts of a finished product, without being clear about what would actually be available at launch. On these promises, we unknowingly bought what amounts to and was later revealed as, a work in progress. It's borderline false advertising.
Rockstar was forward enough with us to say that GTA Online wouldn't be ready until two weeks after launch of the game. Fair enough, but they sure as hell made it sound like the FULL multiplayer mode they advertised in the months leading up to it would be available from the get go. Believe it or not, they sold alot of copies on GTAO.
Let me put it this way: When I order a value meal off the menu I expect to get whats pictured/advertised. Burger, Fries, Drink. Sometimes they tell me I'll have to wait awhile as they cook fresh patties. Very well. However when I finally get my meal, it better be 100% of what I ordered. They took extra time after all. They showed me a picture of what I was getting before hand.
I patiently waited two weeks for GTA Online. Networking issues put aside, (we've had that conversation) I was crushed by the fact that heists were not in the game. GTA Online was but a shadow of what I expected. I felt betrayed, I felt lied to, I felt foolish.

I felt betrayed, I felt lied to, I felt foolish. Game development isn't exactly equivalent to ordering fast food though. Sometimes features simply don't make the cut or are delayed for long periods of time. These things happen, and in the case of heists, R* told us in advance that they wouldn't be making the cut for launch. Had R* not come out and announced that heists wouldn't be there at launch, or had heists not been released at all, I think you would have had a case for false advertising. As it stands, the worst R* is guilty of IMO is taking a long-ass time to deliver on their promise. It's frustrating, but it's not false advertising. It's a reality of game development. I also think the role heists played in pushing pre-orders was minimal. As I said, they were a feature briefly mentioned in a single trailer. It's pretty clear that their marketing department was pushing single-player over Online prior to release.

Check the date. Rockstar gave us that news a week AFTER the launch of the game. GTAV was bought, paid for, and installed on thousands of hard drives by the time that news came out. They made a billion dollars in-part, on borderline false advertising.
If this kind of thing truly a "reality of game development", I will NEVER buy a game at launch, much less pre-order a video game ever again. This kind of thing just didn't happen in the past.
GTA Online pushed alot of pre-orders and heists was a HUGE part of that. Who doesn't want to formulate a bank heist with their buddy's? thus why when Heists finally came out, it was like the games was being released all over again.
Heists were a HUGE part of the single-player and everyone I talked to wanted to do that with friends. The idea is that you could do everything Online that you did in single-player, and more.

R* had said for months at a time that "heists will be in the next update" while no heists were ever present. Eventually, they stopped mentioning heists at all because it became such a toxic issue. All the proof you need for that is on their own website.
2 YEARS later, we finally have heists....
The fact of the matter is, while yes they may have only mentioned heists briefly in video format, they talked damn near non-stop about it on their website, in their forums, and in their changelogs.
They sold so many copies of GTAV through heists, that they really, REALLY should have been hit with a false advertising charge.
Not to mention that even when GTAV Online went live, it didn't work for shit for like 3 MONTHS. So even if you're backing up the argument that they never sold the game based on heists advertising, you cant deny they sold the game based on the new multiplayer advertising for it.
And the mulitplayer alone was worth suing for false advertising.
They have since fixed that issue, but I'll always remember.
Just like how M$ tried to fuck every single gamer out there. The X1 may be "alright" now, but I'll never forget how badly they tried to screw us.

Exactly. Not only can I NOT forgive, but I can't forgive. GTAV was a great game. Don't get me wrong.
I would have liked to know that heists was going to take over a year to become available, and that this games was coming to next gen consoles just 12 months later. I feel like I spent $59.99 on a beta test, and now, as much as i would like to go buy the Xbox One version, start over, and play the definitive version, that would only be on my end...
I'm sure it's a great experience, but I would ultimately be spending $120 on a single game that burnt me the first time around. If I did that I would be inviting everyone else to do the same. Might as well try and resell us a 1080p/60FPS Goldeneye Reloaded. Yeah. I made that comparison. Thats how bad GTAV hurt me. It's been a very long time since I paid full price for a game that let me down.
