So the latest and most intriguing fan theory that I've heard as of late, is that Zelda U is a reboot and re-imagining of the very first LOZ on the NES. The above image is a comparison between the map People have mocked up other images to support this... Maybe a coincidence but starting the demo on whats very similar to the NES manual art is had to ignore now that it's come to my attention. This might be old news, but I haven't seen anyone talk about it. Frankly, I think this is an exciting concept. Since playing ALttP I have wanted a Zelda game that didn't focus around a particular object or gameplay style. It would be a nice change of pace to just be set loose in Hyrule to explore and discover at our leisure as apposed to the ever-increasing trend of forcing you into doing things a certain way. That worked in past LOZ games, but in a post-Skyrim world, the sense of awe and wonder people got from open-world games in the past is only limited by the amount of invisible walls and linear corridors it has. Many open-world games just arnt very linear anymore. It would be nice for Nintendo to start fresh. We still don't know much about the game but what we do know that it's being made with on an entirly new engine. This is remarkable considering Nintendo has been using the same gameplay engine for every console Mario and Zelda title since Super Mario 64. Considering we went from getting a sparse but steady flow of info and confirmed 2015 release date to a "TBD" and rumors of a new console, my own theory is this... Everything they have showed us to this point has since been completely reworked for Nintendo next console. That is why Zelda was delayed. In late 2016, Zelda will come out simultaneously for the Wii U and for the NX as a launch title. This theory has me hesitant to pick up a Wii U (as was the plan to) this holiday.

It's possible. What I want for is for Nintendo to go off the rails and completely change the series. I'm not quite sure what that would mean, honestly, but it seems like they've been trying to re-make OOT with every new installment in an effort bottle up what made that game so special. They need to stop leaning on past glories and show us something groundbreaking with their flagship series.
Change the protagonist, embrace the open-world and allow for non-linear completion of temples, or hell, get rid of discrete temples entirely and find more organic ways of implementing dungeons into the world (Dark Souls might be a good template/starting point for this). Anything that would completely flip this series on its head is great in my book.

Not really sure if it'd be a re-boot so to speak, seeing as the general map of Zelda games is more or less the same... Death Mountain in the north-east is a pretty solid staple... Kakariko Village has moved a couple of times I guess, same as the Lost Woods (Being in the north-west in LttP/LBW as opposed to its usual place of in the east) Lake Hylia is southish... They generally keep the overworld sameish these days, so I can see it not being a re-boot but rather a re-visit to that specific map layout so to speak... Time will tell I guess, but if I were a betting man, and if they're gonna try and keep to the timeline now they've decided there is one and shoehorned stuff into place, I'd put it in the Era of Decline, either after Zelda 2 or between it and the first LoZ

I'm not sure they need to change the protagonist, they could, but knowing Nintendo they wil make us play as some cutesy character with silly spin attack or somethinng, and we'll just end up requestion Link. They they would provide via Amibo and this Zelda game would be known as the experiment.
I do agree with MMCC though. I would like to see them embrace some of the changes found in recent action adventure games. The idea of any open hyrule like Skyrim feels like a stup in the right direction. After the likes of GTAV, MGSV, and others, i think it would be hard to play a more linear "open-world action adventure" and be as impressed.
IF Zelda Wii U is just bigger version of OOT they way Twilight Princess felt, I would still play it and probably enjoy it. But it's just another Zelda game in a 30 year history of Zelda games and while that works, when you have so many open-world games giving us what my 12-year old self wanted when describing the "next zelda" it's hard to not feel held back when playing a new Zelda.
The reason why I never bought New super Mario Bros. on 3DS or WiiU is becasue they look so similar to whats come before it, it's boarderine COD, the difference being the mechanics of these games are usually polished to the T, and they arnt quite annual releases yet.

I'd like a Zelda game where either the roles are reversed, or you play as Linkle.

I would love to play that OOT remake though. The 3DS version is definitive in my book but I would buy a from-ground-up OOT ramke the day it launches. Even buy a new console for it. In fact, Mario and Zelda are the only thing that sells me on Nintendo anymore. Oh well.....
It was kinda strange. I bought a Wii a few years back, and all I bought with it was an extra controller and Wii Shop point cards. I just filled the console with all my favorite pre-gamecube games lol. I must be an old timer.
P.S. Greeny, isnt that concept art from Fable?

P.S. Greeny, isnt that concept art from Fable? No it's a fan-reimagining of Witch Zelda, Prince Link, and Distinguished Ganondorf

The concept of that game is quite interesting too... You play as Zelda, and being the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom, you're more magically orientated than combat, using gems in your gauntlet primarily IIRC

If they can make it as epic as links adventures then cool. Nintendo has a history of taking secondary characters from popular franchises and making bad spin-off games.

Last time we had Princess Zelda in the driving seat of a game though was Wand of Gamilon... The idea may be stained with badness for some people
