The NX is coming and a lot of evidence points to a 2016 Christmas release, I personally don't believe we will see a 2016 release but a lot of people do so let's assume this is true.
This could mean we are getting another Twilight Princess situation with it releasing on both consoles so as a result, a lot of people would prefer the better NX version and will wait for the NX version of the game, meaning day 1 sales will be low and let's face it hype dies down so depending on the distance of time between the Wii U and NX versions some people might not want the game anymore which will reduce overall sales however I'm pretty sure this will only be a small number.
Second possible outcome is if the NX doesn't get Zelda Wii U but they release within a few months of one another. How many fans will skip Zelda to save money for the NX? If the NX isn't backwards compatible which is kinda tricky considering the Gamepad will probably not carrying over to the NX, this might mean a lot of people won't buy Zelda Wii U because they won't be able to play it on their New Nintendo Console.
So there's two situations that could hurt Zelda Wii U, do you think this is a real problem Nintendo is dealing with and do you think there's anyway Nintendo can avoid this? Obviously this all assumes the NX releases this time next year or shortly after.

I'm going to slowly drive off topic here, but these are my thoughts on the matter:
I for one, am tired of the waiting game, I'll get a WiiU this holiday, and play Zelda U on it's intended system. Say all you want about how wonderful the Wii version of Twilight Princess was. It's map is mirrored, and that makes it slightly inferior experience in my book. Only because the non-mirrored map matches the traditional Hyrule layout form OOT. Sorry, I just had to get that out there.
I doubt the NX version of the game would be dramatically superior to the Wii U version if there even is a duel release. If it's running at 1080p/60fps on the WiiU, the differences will likely be minimal. Plus the NX is rumored to be a completely disc-free system. Totally digital. If this is true, I want no part of it. I prefer physical copies over digital. Having physical proof that I own the game just makes me feel more comfortable. If something were to happen to everyone's purchase history records on Xbox for example, you could lose all your games and have no proof of purchase to get them back. Plus physical copies are cheaper. Figure that out!
I'm still not convinced the Wii U is even worth owning unless you are crazy in love with what Nintendo is doing right now. I have been happy with a regular ole Wii for the better part of 5 years, and if it wasn't for all the Zelda support on the WiiU, I would probably skip buying the console all together. I see the Wii U as only barely worth it. I suck at Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. so there is very little for me to enjoy on that console. Why Nintendo has not dropped the price is beyond me.
Since the later years of the Gamecube, Nintendo have shifted their focus to children as the target audience and adopted more strict policies on family friendly software. Today, Nintendo is more of a toy company, than a video game company. Every title has Amiibo support, and I have ZERO interest in buying a toy that unlocks one costume in one of the few games I anticipate playing. Worse yet, it looks like more games are becoming dependent on it. There is something in Zelda U you can only unlock through the Wolf Link Amiibo. Maybe it's just a costume, but if it's too much more, I call shenanigans!
Frankly, their business model is despicably alienating to me. Nintendo products are always in short supply and drives aftermarket prices to prohibitively expensive levels. It has never been more expensive to play on a Nintendo console than it is today. It's very unflattering when I can buy brand new physical copies of Fallout 3, Arkham City, Mass Effect 2 etc. for about $12 a piece. Nintendo is playing this game of making big money off of the kids they market to, and parents nostalgia. It works, but I can't help but feel alienated as someone who supported Nintendo from the days of NES, to the launch of the Wii.
If you have a limited budget and decide to go with Nintendo, you're are the mercy of whatever Nintendo produces. For me, that is limited to main series Zelda games and main series Mario games. That's about it. Everything else I play on Nintendo consoles is 3rd party, and i haven't played a 3rd party title on a Nintendo console since Resident Evil 4. I know there are a few 3rd party gems on Wii/WiiU but I've played them and their just not my cup of tea.
Point being, Nintendo has become more expensive and less appealing as the years have gone by. As of right now, I'm happy with what I have on Wii. I know I'll break down and buy a refurbished Wii U once Twilight Princess is out, and that may very well be the last Nintendo console I ever buy.
