Star wars battlefront II is an action Third/First Person shooter, set in the star wars universe. It follows the events of the movies but tells them from the account of a veteran stormtrooper from the 501st legion.
In this story you arn't the main focus of the story you arn't even a part of it. You're just kind of there. The game takes you through a multitude of large battles from the movies and does it in a great atmosphere graphically. I can't really say much due to a problem with my AMD drivers I had a lot of texture glitches meaning what should have amazed me simply became a chore to get though the particular missions because of the flickering and it ruined a many firefights, but when they work well I'm not gonna lie since I have no nostalgia goggles they are aged, but they get the job done well enough to immerse me in the so basically what I'm saying they are fine.
Gameplay
Right now after that little intro type thingy not that good at writing reviews anyways this is the juicy stuff:
In Battlefront II as I said you are a normal stormtrooper meaning you get access to all the arsenal that is available to the imperial forces which is good. I like the blasters, I like the blasters a lot they sound good to fire and It feels great watching hordes of rebels fall before your might but...there is not much option in ways to approach the firefights there is never any flanking opportunity or great use of tactics you mainly hop and roll around until you kill the guys or the guys kill you this is a bit of a buzzkill as I felt the enemy's take a fair amount of damage to down for example I found myself shooting rebels about 6 or 7 times before they went down and when you've got more spawning in at every time it makes it difficult to clear an area before your AI team mates move up so I ended up skipping a lot of firefights if I could in order to get to the objective in time to finish the mission.
It plays very much like an arena shooter fast paced all about dodging while maintaining constant hits on your targets and as people know I'm a sucker for tactical shooters 1 hit to kill and all that but I did enjoy it, its fun in that fast running acrobatic gun spraying maniac kinda way another feature that I enjoyed was when you start doing particularly well friendly stormtroopers will make comments on your actions which kinda gave me that sense of importance even though the storyline gave me none so it shined more.
The game gets even better when you finally get to play the heroes like Yoda because running through an entire line of droids and coming out unscathed as there entire platoon has gone down it's great fun and shows you just how badass that little green bastard is I could Imagine in multiplayer people would rage when Yoda stepped on the battlefield because he is impossible to hit
As for the battles the 64 player/bot battles make the game feel intense as there is always something on screen going on and you just get absorbed in the chaos which makes me wish they had increased the players for BFIII it's not like the new systems couldn't handle it and they should have had a campaign mode
Some gripes I had with the campaign is that it is simply a multiplayer with dialog even though I'm fine with it being that I wish the bots AI would have improved and it wasn't all up to you to do the objectives even though as for the above you arn't really important to the storyline many a time I found myself sat clearing an area getting to the capture point just to find all my teamates standing on the flag or something with there thumbs up their asses or they would get stuck on walls and stoof so I would end up severely wounded waiting for back up for about 5mins would die eventually and then spawn in to see a group of bots stuck on a wall because one of them froze up mid game which really became irritating another thing that annoyed me is sometimes the game just instakills you out of nowhere and this always seemed to happen when I was on my last poxy respawn "ohh now you've massacred an entire army by yourself you now have to kill this queen with her Jedi guards also you have 2mins in which to do this otherwise you lose" alright damn Imma get my ass moving ohh crap there's about seven of those jedi bastards with there instagib sabers right lets prioritize them damn that was close ohh well just the queen left now BAM!!! YOU'RE DEAD DEFEAT wait WTF where did that blue laser shite come from...now do the whole thing over again with the textures flashing you spaz...thanks game yep I am ragging on it a little bit it annoyed the hell out of me I wish it had checkpoints, I like checkpoints, checkpoints are nice and too be honest the game isn't that challenging it just has a nasty habit to instant kill you every so often.
All in all it is a great game, looks good, plays good and gives you that special feeling of being in a star wars movie and I am enjoying the game a whole lot.
Special thanks to Xargen for getting the game for me I owe you one
