Sleeping Dogs has received a lot of praise by reviewers and quite frankly it deserves every bit of it.
The only way I can describe it is like GTA in China, with a better combat system and a better driving system..... and a better plot.... and better characters....... and just, overall a better game.
The Plot: You assume the role of a hardened cop called Wei Shen, who is assigned with a mission to go undercover as a new member of a Triad empire known as the Sun On Yee. Wei must keep his cover intact, keeping between his duty to the badge and the code of the triad.
There are so many things about the plot I can say about Sleeping Dogs as the plot gets gradually deeper, it actually starts to become emotional. I won't spoil it for you.
In terms of gameplay I'll start with the combat system. The unarmed combat is fast paced, it is fluent and easy to control, yet tough to master, not to mention you can upgrade your skills, learn new moves and kick some serious arse. Environmental kills can also be used and by god they are BRUTAL!
Take this image for example. Anyway, moving on.
The gunfights are pretty much like any third person shooter, cover to cover, only in sleeping dogs you can trigger slow motion moments from doing certain moves such as vaulting over cover whilst aiming, which really turn the tides on your enemies. The gunfights aren't anything special but they are awesome nonetheless.
One of my personal favorite aspects of the game is the vehicle mechanics, it does not focus on realism like GTA does, sleeping dogs is full of car chases and they are AWESOME! They are high octane, fast-paced thrill rides, although they happen VERY often, the fun of them makes you enjoy every chase. Another feature which makes vehicles awesome on sleeping dogs is the fact that you can actually jump out of your vehicle, climb onto another vehicle at high speed and hijack the car, this is very useful when your car is being shot at to the point of where it will explode.
There are a LOT of side quests in the game from fight clubs to even taking girls on dates and getting laid. I shit you not, unfortunately you don't see anything but you can tell it's happening.
There is no limit to the freedom you have on Sleeping Dogs and without all the side quests you are still left with a long, gripping game.
So I've covered what I love about this game, the problem is, I can't find anything wrong with this game. I just can't. All I can describe this game as is perfect.
I rate it a 10/10, if you have not played this game, you don't know what you're missing.
