FYI I support gun control and regulation. I've got nothing against owning a gun for sport or safety, but military-grade hardware in the every-man's hand? No.
Also, there's this:
There comes a point when you've gone too far. Men and Women are banned from the military until they're 18 years old. Driving a half-ton block of metal on wheels requires 400 hours of intense supervised experience, a written test and various physical exams. Consuming a certain chemical at dangerous rates is limited to those 21 and over.
And yet...we craft tools not meant for driving nails; not designed for mending cloth. But intended for death. And we sit, idly by, and watch as our children, too young to understand what it means when grandpa "stops," take arms. We listen to their souls break, indoctrinated by petty, primitive instinct.
"This is normal. This is ok. The only one you can trust, is you."

Great post but I would go a step further than you, I do not support guns for safety, they are the most unsafe thing to own!

the thing about the "bearing arms" amendment is that it was written in a time when: A) either the British empire or a red Indian would knock on your door and put an arrow/bullet between your eyes B ) rifles took a billion years to reload and weren't entirely accurate. neither of those things apply any more. nobody needs weapons (except maybe farmers)there just isn't any point trying to hold onto them. Target shooting; fair enough but you don't really need to keep the rifle handy at all times.

Nice post but I have to disagree with the term red Indian, they were not Indian they were native Americans.

I have spent the last couple days trying to collect coherent thought enough to respond to this particular thread. I'm angry, sad, confused...
I work in radio and had to spend the days leading up to this last Christmas hearing sad songs every 2 hours with President Obamas voice imposed over the music as he says the names of those children killed at Sandy Hook. I had to sit in my production booth and take off my headphones just to keep myself together at work. I say that because I have a huge soft spot for kids. I don't know why but the fact that these kids won't get to live life depresses the hell out of me.
Something has to be done, and won't be done, because people are afraid of the boogyman. They are afraid of security, change, love, and trust.

The sad thing is the boogyman that goes bump in the night is actually a family member getting a glass of water, using the bathroom or coming home late and that is who gets shot. Guns should not be used for safety.

In spite of all of this, no new gun regulations will be implemented in the United States. All those people who died in the massacres last year died in vain, justice will not be served. They will be forgotten and more inocent people will be killed by lone mad men with automatic firearms.

In spite of all of this, no new gun regulations will be implemented in the United States. You're absolutely right. Between the bought congress, the two-party system, and Conservative stubbornness (I'm independent, not liberal), nothing productive is going to get done any time soon. We have to get the money out of politics...our representatives are so afraid of losing their donations, that they no longer vote with their constituents in mind. "How can I get re-elected?" By bowing to the super companies and lobbyists that support you. Funny thing is, politicians spend so much time trying to get RE-elected, that they don't do anything worthwhile while being ELECTED.

But wait a minute, barack obama cant get re-elected (as I understand it you can only serve two terms) so why would he care. Lol the president has no real power. Yeah he signs bills into law, but only after Congress says he can. Yeah he commands our armies, but only after Congress declares war. Yeah he executes and enforces the law, but only after Congress examines the very laws it passed and gives the go ahead. It's amazing how many people think the President is the most powerful man in the American Government. He's not even close.... And that's not me being all "conspiracy cooky" either, that's how our government is defined in the Constitution.

Hate to say it but greenfire is right. Because we live in a "free" country, we say what goes and what doesn't in the form of Congress. I think obama could have done a great deal of good had the conservative population too concerned with personal rights let him. If u know anything about marijuana then you know the fact some of the people I graduated with being put in jail over owning a tiny amount is crazy... regulation, in this country is crazy.

Crazy how its just a popularity contest for the rest of congress... Guns have been banned in Northern Ireland since I was a kid, we cant even buy BB guns unless they are painted bright orange otherwise they are classed as "imitation firearms".
Its a pain because I had a BB gun when I was a kid and now I cant buy one but at least I am not afraid of being shot when I leave the house
