What do you think of this idea?
YouTube have launched a pilot program for a small group of partners that will offer paid channels on YouTube with subscription fees starting at $0.99 per month.
Every channel has a 14-day free trial, and many offer discounted yearly rates. For example, Sesame Street will be offering full episodes on their paid channel when it launches.
I dont really mind it as an idea if the channel is updated regularly with good content, at least 1 video a week.

I think, ignore it, go about like it doesnt exist, DO NOT pay them. Show them that this won't work.

Yeah, I agree with Blade, if this takes off in a big way, we'll find people who's content is mediocre, but enjoyable charging for their channel... I don't wanna have to pay to watch my Game Grumps =p

No I appreciate that, I for one wont pay for anything mediocre. I would however pay for a mini tv series that would never make it on tv if you know what I mean. It's a good opportunity for stuff like that.

I'm against, because all of the good channels (game grumps, sourcefed, freddiew to name a few) are going to start charging for views.
And I'm not about to blow money on a website that was created with the intention of being a free content sharing place.

I dont think you should be angry with youtube, be angry with the people who decide to start charging people to watch the videos they make.

I could see this potentially working for a mini series as JMM said, but for everything else it's pointless. The partnership program is fine as is because it's a win-win for both content producers and consumers. Consumers get to watch their favorite channels for free while producers get money for creating good content.
Bottom line: the way it is now producers actually have to work for their money. They have to consistently produce quality vids that people want to see or they lose subs/money. There's no shortage of money to be made with this current system, so something like a subscription fee IMO is just unnecessary.

I think it will sort the wheat from the chaff so to speak.
