This was an old-school dungeon crawler I used to play when I was a kid, and man I loved it so much... These days, it's still loved by many, so much so that people have revived "The Sierra Network" which was the multiplayer frame to play quite a few games on, and you can play Yserbius here too, with fully working multiplayer functionality. If anyone is interested in a good ol' DOS dungeon crawler, download the files here
www.manvswebapp.com/dev/innrevival-installer
I'll run you through setting it up, so after you install it, it should run automatically.
If you close it and try re-running it but get an error, while re-installing is a temporary fix, this is how I've found to fix it. (Clicky the spoiler button)
Now, with that out of the way, I'll show you how to set up and log into INN, which is the first step before traversing the volcano (Clicky the spoiler)
Ok, now that we're online, we're greeted with the following screen
The astute of you will notice that it says "Spring Map" on the top right, and the fact that it's spring isn't a coincidence, it changes the map to match the current season (In the northern hemisphere at least)
So in the top left, we have Casinoland, where you can play Blackjack, Slots, Roulette and Poker (Although you need other players to play poker, but you can play against the house in the other three, also, you'll have to create another character, like your main INN one or the Sierraland one)
Middle Left is the Post Office, where you can check your address book, but honestly, I don't know if this works at all
Bottom left is the shop, this DEFINITELY doesn't work, the exit button is also here
Bottom Middle we have three things, the phonebooth, where you can search for another player (Unsure if it's working, probably not) the watertower, which is the credits, and the clubhouse, which SEEMS to work, though I've yet to play a game in it (Games are the ones that are listed as your skills when making your character)
Bottom Right is the Funhouse, which holds the "Bright Star School" and the "Dim Wit School", neither of which work without them being installed on your computer (I.E. they don't come with this pack)
Right Middle is Sierraland, which does work, and houses more games (You'll have to create another character like your INN one or your Casinoland one) The games in this area are "Red Baron" "MiniGolf" "SneakATac" "Rocket Quiz" "3-D Golf" "Paintball" "Boogers" "Graffiti" "Stratego" and "Yatch"... Don't ask me what half of these are, I haven't played around much in here lol
In the middle there is the Town Hall, nothing in here really works, so not much point... There is also the help sign, which'll probably explain things better than me lol
Top Middle we have the Arena, I have no idea what ever went on in here as it doesn't even work a little
And finally, the place we're MOST interested in (Hopefully), the top right... The volcano... Midevaland, home of the Shadow of Yserbius, the Ruins of Cawdor and the Fate of Twinion
All these games are similarly built dungeon crawlers, Yserbius being the first, with the Fates of Twinion appearing later as a prequel, and the Ruins of Cawdor later yet as an online only game
Go ahead and click one of them (I recommend starting with Yserbius), and click the server to join
Now we create our Yserbius character, this is who will be exploring the deep dungeons of the volcano
There are some pre-made characters for you to use, but I normally just go ahead and create my own, go ahead and click the left or right buttons to choose a character to play or replace.
In this first screen, we set our name, epithet, race, class, gender and alignment (Alignment doesn't make that much of a difference IIRC, except for one bit later in the dungeon)
The text at the bottom will guide you through each option as well. Each race gives different bonuses to certain classes, I.E. some races are better at some classes than others (Elf Ranger for example) Click Next when you're happy
Next up, you get some bonus stats (The amount depend on your race/class) You can't edit the bottom three, they grow with each level naturally. Click the + and - buttons to add or remove points. Note, you do NOT need to spend all your points if you don't want to, though I recommend doing so on this page
Strength is your ability to hit with physical weapons, Defense helps you take less damage from physical attacks, Agility helps you take less damage from magic (and can sometimes negate it completely) and the more Initiative you have, the better the chance that you'll attack first in combat. Click Next when you've decided on your stats
Next up we have the appearance page, pretty self explanatory really
Peehew, I can almost smell Jimbob from here! Click next when you're happy with how you look (You can change this later in the game if you change your mind)
The spells page, possibly one of the most important pages, spells can play a pretty big role in this game, max amount of points you can put into a spell is 12. You don't need to use all your points here either, you can hold onto them for other spells that you might unlock later if you prefer
Every class gets spells, some get certain spells earlier or later than other classes, and you gotta keep an eye on how many points you put into each, because it will let you buff a spell so much that you don't have enough max mana to cast it, so be careful. Right-click the name of a spell and a description will pop up in the bottom window to let you know what it does. Click next when you're done allocating spell points.
The skills page is similar to the spells page, except none of these use mana, so feel free to throw as many points into them as you feel like, max points is also 12. You'll hear a tone on this page indicating your character is done, again, you don't need to spend all of your skill points to be finished if you want to hold onto them
No bonus points for a troll thief I'm afraid, so that lockpicking skill stays at 1 for Jimbob! Click Done to finish your character, or next or previous to change bits.
Ok, back at the character select sceen
Choose your freshly made character (Or one of the others if you wish) and click Play
Here we have it folks... The volcano
The volcano has two doors, the top door will take you to the start of the dungeon, and the bottom door will take you to the last place you warped out from using the Teleport spell or the Teleport Pass item. The tavern is where you can see who all is currently in the game (Grayed out names are in the dungeon, but you can still whisper to them)
The keep is where you go to see your stats and change various parts of your character again, and also has a shop where you can sell your findings or buy new gear
In the dungeon this is the first thing you should see
You have your main view window in the top left, taking up the majority of the screen, below that is the chat window, the top right is your current party, the right middle you have your equipment (The square slot between the legs is the trade slot, anything anyone sends you will appear here) and below that there is a chest and a purple bag, both for inventory, the purple is called your "Quest Bag" and it's where I like to hold onto my best goodies. Also there is a bin here for disposing of unwanted items if you have no room. In the very bottom there are four buttons, the first being a map, the second is your spellbook, the third is your skills list, and the fourth is the options button
Go ahead and open your chest inventory, the game is nice enough to give you some starter gear, go right on ahead and equip that lot
Next, bring up your map by either clicking it, or pushing "Insert" on your keyboard
This will also bring up your movement keys, the map is filled out as you see it, with the light-brown being explored, the dark brown being unexplored, brown lines on walls being gates to take you to other maps, and yellow lines being doors. Movement can also be done with the keyboard, using your up, down, left and right keys (Sorry guys, no WASD here), also, left and right will strafe, whereas Home and End will turn you left, Page Up and Page Down turning you right, the numpad will move you around too
There are no enemies in the dungeon entrance, so go ahead and get used to the controls here
Step into the mines however and BAM
Welcome to combat, you'll notice that the skills and the spellbook are still there, but now there's a bag instead of the options button, which will open your inventory, and a sword and axe button, which will physically attack with your equipped weapon.
When playing in a party, the gray blocks on the right will be the other players. The ones on top are reserved for enemies, and the players can move around the bottom blocks (The back two are the back row, and can't be physically attacked, good spot for mages and other squishies)
I don't like the look of that Mountain Lion, so I'mma go ahead and blast him with some lightning... Click the spellbook to open it up
After clicking the spell you want, the spellbook will close and your mouse pointer will be replaced by a crosshair in a circle, click the enemy portrait to attack
20 damage and the thing is still standing! I shouldn't have put all those points into aura!
After a couple of combat victories, be sure to leave and go to the keep (Or if you die, just pop into the keep before going back into the volcano) and hopefully you'll be greeted by something like this
Sweet! Level 2 bitches! Go ahead and increase your stats and spells and skills, sell anything you may have found that you don't need, maybe pick up a teleport pass and continue onward
Happy crawling! Hope to see some of you on there sometime!

Troubleshooting
If you close it and try re-running it but get an error, while re-installing is a temporary fix, this is how I've found to fix it.
Step 1; Find your INN folder, right click it and click properties.
In the properties window, click the security tab, then click the Edit button
Go to your current user, and click the "Full Access" check box, apply that, close the window and you should be good to go

Setting up INN
This character isn't the one you'll be playing in the game, it is just for your INN login for if you have different people playing it on your computer. (Although if you want to play any of the clubhouse games with people, this is the character you use) You can tear through this if you like, but if you wanna set yourself up, here's the lowdown
Firstly, you'll be greeted with a screen like this;
Go ahead and click "Create"
This is the first screen when making your character, which is where you set your name, age and location (These don't really matter, could be anything you like)
As you can see, I'm old these days... Once you're happy with what you've put in, click ok
In the next screen you can set up what you look like (Remember, this isn't the look people will see when playing Yserbius, Cawdor, Twinion or the Casino)
Yep, that's EXACTLY how I look! Click "Go On"
Next up you get to show off your skill levels for each of the games available on INN (I'm not actually sure if any of them are working, as I've never really been in the Clubhouse, but I assume they do?)
Good ol' Jimbob here has varying skills! Click "Go On"
Next up you get to pick out some interests from the list of very interesting things... The most you can pick is 4, because hey, we don't want to give TOO much about ourselves away
I'm starting to get a real feel for the kinda guy Jimbob is already! Click "Go On"
Once all that is done, you can review all your stuff here
If you feel anything is amiss, click the go back button, otherwise click the save button
Back at the first screen, your character is ready to go, click the "Play" button to log into the server
But wait, what's this? "I don't remember creating a password?"
No biggie, there are no saved passwords ever, just put in something longer than 6 letters, click ok and you're good to go!
