LBW is the only thing I'm remotely interested in from Nintendo. The Direct event was a joke. No new IP's to speak of outside of the one by Monolith, couldn't care less about yet another Mario/Mario Kart, I already own Wind Waker, and they managed to make SSB look boring. They showed two new characters (Megaman and Villager)... and that's about it. Nothing about gameplay changes or new features.
Nintendo is so painfully out of touch with the western market it's comical.

I agree that SSB looks "boring" in that it looks like just more SSB. I have to hand it to Nintendo for putting their flagship system first for once with the SSB trailer. I was suprised that most of the footage seen for the game took place on a 3DS screen. It looks good and after seeing Animal Crossing in motion the last few days it looks like Nintendo is the only one taking advantage of the 3DS hardware. Games can look and play just as well on that portable as they can on Nintendos past home consoles, calling out the Gamecube and Wii specifically.
P.S. I know Super Mario Galaxy was huge for Nintendo on the Wii but they NEED to give Mario a break. That franchise is making COD look like a well spaced out release. No really, in 3 years time we have seen two cut and paste Mario Karts, New Super Mario Bros. and now Super Mario 3D Land and World games.

Yeah, I may end up getting SSB on the 3DS, but not until they show me something other than a few new characters.

I think I'll get it on the 3DS anyway, just so I can have it portable, seeing as I love the game =p

LMAO The Wind Waker Remake is EXACTLY what I thought it would be: an updated lighting engine.
Seriously though, think about it. In a game who's art style is "Cell-shaded" what can possibly be upgraded to look "HD." The textures are low-res because that art style only works on low-res textures, gameplay cannot be drastically changed without breaking certain puzzles or altering the controller (which I guess they've kinda done...), and story needs to stay the same or else it's no longer a "remake."
So the only thing left that CAN be upgraded, would be the way the game generates light. From the looks of the trailer, shadows are now more realistic and FUCKING EVERYWHERE. It's like someone at Ninty took the shadow slider and threw it to max. I mean, the scene where the bird has Aryll (spelling? It's been years since I played WW) is practically an epileptic nightmare turned down to varying tones of gray.
So is that alone worth calling something "HD." By Ninty's standards, yes. Their consoles after the N64 lacked a huge amount of graphical prowess, and throwing a shadow onto every blade of cell-shaded grass does indeed earn you the title of "HD" when you were previously known for blurring the back drop to conserve memory (looking at you Mario Sunshine).
It is not, however, enough to call it "HD" by the industry standard. Ninty is catching up, sure, but they're going to have to do better than add shadows to a cell-shaded game if they want to enter the "HD" arena.
Overall, based on the trailer alone, I cannot recommend buying this "HD" remake unless your previously owned copy is in an unplayable state.

Greenfire, I agree with what you said there but...
Nintendos consoles have lacked graphical prowess after the Gamecube, not N64. Gamecube was more graphically robust than PS2 and nearly matched the xbox. Not that anyone will ever know that. Just had to point that out. Spent a good 5 years of my life trying to convince a few people that Gamecube had better graphics that PS2. Resident Evil 4 finally brought that to light but it still grinds my gears. Had an issue of Time magazine from fall 2001 that compared specs side by side. Sorry for the nitpick.

You are quite right about the Gamecube's graphical capabilites (GC is actually my favorite of the "Modern Ninty consoles), but since it's library was so...limited, I opted to not include it in a serious running. I never understood why the GC failed so hard. It looked good, had a decent name, controller was awesome. And yet there were very few games worth mentioning made for it. Had Ninty had a better planned library for the GC I think we'd be speaking more highly of Ninty's performance right now and perhaps the Pii's wouldn't be so laughable. I think Ninty's decline began with the loss of Rare, but I think their descent began with the poor handling of the GC.

It looked like a toy and not like something that should be sitting next to you dvd player next to your tv. Speaking of dvd players the Gamecube didn't have one, didn't play cds either, and no hard drive. The discs were small and we all know the smaller the disc the less you can put it on, proven by Resident Evil.
Zelda was a cartoon character, Metroid didn't have Halos multiplayer, and Mario relied too much on a watergun on a tropical island. These are not my words. This is what I was getting from classmates at the time and the rep spread like wildfire.
I remember when a friend came over and we played Need for Speed Underground and he couldn't believe the Gamecube could look so good ib comparison to his PS2. the damage was done though.
I remember the day it dropped to $100. I was Nintendo loyal up to that point but after that 12 month dry spell I had to leave that sinking ship. Visited the site for RE4 and Twilight Princess but that was it.
