Oh holy...we did it, everyone. For the first time in gaming history, the public has forced a major and global corporation to bow down and change its entire business model. Ladies and gentlemen. I present to you. The Xbox 180: M$ ClickyKotaku ClickyGiant Bomb ClickyDon't feel like giving the clicky? Let me summarize for you: The Xbone is taking a step back in the complete opposite direction, a 180 if you will, and will be removing the online DRM. The list goes as follows:
- No more always online requirement
- The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
- All game discs will work on Xbone as they do on Xbox 360
- An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
- All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
- No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
- Region locks have been dropped
Unfortunately, it looks like the X180 will still cost $500 at launch and require Wii60 2 to function. But that's peanuts to what it would have been.

Thanks for the post greenfire I hate to be a downer but I kinda see this as a way for them to sell more consoles and they will find other sneaky ways to exploit the users in the long run =\

From the looks of it, your arcade games are still uncompatible, you'll still have ads on the dash, you'll still need Kinect 2, and you'll still be way over-paying for a next gen console (remember when the N64 was $100 and THAT was expensive?) But at least I dont need internet all the time just to play the next Elder Scrolls.

I think the fact that they're going back on this is good news... They more or less admit they dun goofed, maybe if we keep pushing, they'll see what we actually want, which is backwards compatibility, which isn't out of the question if you ask me... Windows is backwards compatible, why not xbox?

I remember reading that because the nature of how the xbone works it will never be backward comp.

I remember reading that because the nature of how the xbone works it will never be backward comp. Yeah the architectures are different. I still think there could be a way to emulate it though. After all, if I can play Goldeneye on Windows 7, I should be able to play 360 on 180. (well...I cant right now, with the hard drive re-formatting and all, but you get what I mean.)

Yeah, emulators shouldn't be THAT hard to code, especially if you actually OWN the source code... Hell, there's xbox emulators out there already =/ Admittedly, to get a 360 emulator working 100%, apparently you'd need some beastly processor... "And it would also be impossible to emulate it, since the xbox360 has a 3.2ghz 3core/6thread cpu. ill put it in perspective, pcsx2 (ps2 emulator) requires a 3.0ghz cpu, and the ps2 has a 400mhz cpu. So for an xbox360 emulator, you would need like a 9.0ghz core i7-3970x or better probably." But surely if anyone can sort that shit out it'd be the people that made it in the first place right?

By surrendering to the consumer, M$ has established the precedent that DRM is NOT what the buying man wants. Today is the beginning of the end for DRM.
First on consoles. Then the rest of the world. Maybe.
And then there's THIS little gem:
Party hats and handjobs.

What he says is exactly how I feel. Microsoft has kicked us and it's gonna be a long time before that trust returns. I don't plan on buying a new console this year but when I do it's not going to be an Xbox One.
Oh and considering the WiiU is going to sit on the shelf aside PS4, they should drop the price at least $50. Wii u or for $50 more, a true next gen consoled that "only does everything"? Yep.

I have such an extensive library on XBLA now. The worst part is I'm not even talking about the great Xbox 360 games as much as the 10 retro games sitting on my hard drive that found new life on the 360 and are seemingly doomed to sit on said hard drive forever. What happens when the hard drive decides to crap out? What happens when the Xbox Live servers go down and I can't redownload when the hard drive fails?

^this is what worries me the most if you are not online sometimes you cant play xbla games so what happens when the servers go down. I can see people spending loads of money on hard drives on eBay with certain games on it because its the only way to play them.
