I'm sorry JMM but can you name one game you can't play offline? ALL my XBLA games work offline... My hard drive is worth hundreds. OH and the games don't work without a license registered to the console. SO you would need to buy a hard drive with the gamertag tied to the game on it AND I'm not sure on this but you need connect to the internet to transfer the licenses to the new console to play it.

Ok my 360 console had RRoD a few years ago so I just bought a new one, ripped the hard drive off and put my old one on. Now for EVERY arcade game I want to play that was purchased on my old console it loads up as a trial as asks if I would like to download the full version (this happens every time I want to play) . If I click yes I dont have to pay again it just downloads an update. My point is if the console you used to buy game every breaks (which it will) then having the hard drive might not be enough.

JMM, did you transfer your licenses to the new console? It sounds like that is your problem here. All the instructions for it are on the Xbox web site. After doing that, the games should play on your offline console. Look into it and let me know if this fixes it. It should.
Or just do this: 1.On your console, sign in to Xbox LIVE using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content. 2.Go to Settings and select Account. 3.Under Your Billing Options, select License Transfer. 4.Follow the instructions to transfer the content licenses. 5.After the licenses are transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licenses.
So you may be best off deleteing all the games that don't work offline (not the save files just the games) and redownloading them after transfering the lisence. YOu can do this once every four months but if oyu get a new console every four months then I can't help you with your crazy.

5.After the licenses are transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licenses. Thanks for the info that is probably what is wrong but my point still stands. When the servers are shut down you will no longer be able to download the old games to a different console.

Yes. It's sad. I am thinking I might buy a new Xbox 360 very late in the Xbox 360s life span (after a price drop or black friday sale) just so I have the newest hardware possible and redownload everything one last time so when they shut off the servers I will still have a hard drive full of great games and a console that will hopefully last 10 years due to not having demanding game marathons and being on for 10 hours at a time like my current one has suffered.
When you consider how much I'll be using the new 360 (just for games) vs. how much I'm using the 360 slim model I've had for 3 years (games, streaming, dvds) it's not out of the question that the last Xbox 360 I buy will last a good 10 years. I'll be using my PS4 for everything non-gameing related to my new 360 will be strictly for the games I have for it and nothing else. So there is that.
