What I dont understand, is where publishers are getting this, "People don't like platformers and adventure games anymore," nonsense.
Last I checked, people went apeshit insane over games like Braid, Bastion, Limbo & Fez. Sure, those were all platformers, but they were also adventure games. People love the shit out of adventure games. The reason they aren't "selling well right now" is because no one is making any TO SELL.
All I want is my fucking Banjo Threeie, dammit!

It depends how strict you are being on the definition of "Adventure" or "Platform" game. I mean you could argue that: Assassin's Creed Batman Arkham Series Zelda GTA New Super Mario Mario Galaxy Red Dead Deus Ex L.A. Noire are all adventure and platform games. All came out with something good in the last 3 years. A bit action heavy and established as franchises but the market is there and alive, and well. Shooters, for the first time in a long time, are the last genre on my mind this year.

Sorry for dP, but I had a great point to make. It's not "people" that are going apeshit over these platformers. It's industry vets like you and I that are starved for something fresh and new or something that takes old ideas and makes them fresh. The typical gamer can be ignorant as hell over what you might think is the most basic industry knowledge. Many own a 360 soley for Madden or COD. Story: Aparently I have a 15 year old nephew now, by marrige. He asked me yesterday if I had an Xbox and if I had COD. I said "yeah". He said "which one? One or two?" THAT is what I'm talking about. This kid plays games alot but doesnt know COD exists outside of Blck Ops storyline and he isnt even the first kid I have seen say this. The kiddies love them some Blk Ops. Somehow he invited himself over to our place to spend the night.?. We ended up playing Moden Werfare 3 all night. I got him to play Perfect Dark with me for about 30 minutes but it was clear he wanted nothing to do with it. It was no Cowa Doody. We are a Rare breed here at jmmreview.co.uk. Never forget that.

All I want is my fucking Banjo Threeie, dammit! You forgot the Pedro! I think what greenfire means is there is no, mario 64, conkers bad fur day or banjo kazooie style games out there anymore I can see what you mean tho. TBH the xbox 360 never had those types of games, it would be nice if rare made a few but it would use the Wii 60 if they did. =/

Yeah but my standards have changed since the N64 games. I don't enjoy playing 3D platformers nearly as much as I used to. I liked Sonic Adventure, Mario sunshine, and Spyro but playing those games over again today. Not my cup of tea. Falling off of platforms and incredibly hard time trials and the like is frustrating and gives me no since of accomplishment even when I beat them. I'm a FPS/Action adventure guy forever. 2D platformers are still great though...

Maybe you are right and we are just being romantic about it, still its sad to see Rare so broken.

I think that at some point we will see another great adventure game, although it won't be from Rare.

Completely agree with this post. It's not like the public sent up an outcry against adventure games. On the contrary, people loved them. For whatever reason, they just stopped making them. I have a theory as to why that is, brewing right now.
