Hey guys saw "The Worlds End" yesterday and before I get into the review there are just a few things I just want to mention.
1) This is a spoiler free review so don't worry about anything being spoiled.
2) I didn't have huge expectations due to it being a third film in "The Cornetto Trilogy" and it facing against "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" easily two of the funniest films of the 2000's.
3) I didn't see any of the trailers or interviews just a few adds.
4) I am a huge fan of the series especially Simon Pegg ad Nick Frost.
5) It's a bit annoying how this film isn't the massive hit compared to "Hot Fuzz", The World's End earned £2.1 million during its UK opening weekend, losing the top spot to Monsters University. Its weekend grosses were higher than Shaun of the Dead's £1.6 million but lower than Hot Fuzz's £5.4 million (figures taken from wikipedia).
Anyway onto the review.
The film is amazing, it is full of references to the other films in "The Cornetto Trilogy". The film is about a group of friends who at the end of school decide to do the golden mile pub crawl. Twelve pubs a point at each one. The film shoots twenty years later into the future where everyone has grown up except for Gary King (Simon Pegg) who enlists them to repeat the pub crawl.
I watched a review for this film in which the reviewer complained that there weren't many laugh out loud moments through out the movie. I completely disagree with this statement me and my two friends (along with another couple in a completely empty cinema screening room) we were laughing so much it was as if the room was completely full of people. We were all laughing for at least half of the film.
Another problem I heard about the film was that the action scenes weren't up to par with the action set pieces compared to "Hot Fuzz". To this I reply "Shaun of the Dead" didn't have many action scenes (apart from the excellent pub sequence at the end and some of the car scenes) and in "Hot fuzz" Nicolas Angel (Simon Pegg) was a special trained Police Officer and the film itself was inspired by 80's action films. Where as in this film no one is a specially trained officer nor is it inspired by action films. I also heard the fight scenes are choppily put together to this I disagree with.
So what do I think of the film ? I absolutely loved the film and I think it's the best of the trilogy and a fitting conclusion. If you don't like Nick Frost or Simon Pegg or any of the previous films you wont like this. However, if you liked them I say you will like this one. It should be noted I didn't get the chance to watch "Shaun of the Dead" or "Hot Fuzz" in the lead up for this film so when this comes out on D.V.D, I am going to have a marathon and I can fully decide which is my favorite. However, at the moment I think this is my favorite I highly recommend seeing it I give it a 9 out of 10.
