Developed by Kojima Productions and produced by Konami. It will be the tenth main entry in the Metal Gear series, and will be the first to have an open world gameplay structure. The story will take place following the events of MGS: Peace Walker. Release could be as early as winter 2013 or as late as spring 2014 but is confirmed for X360/PS3.
Edit: This is footage from the first portion of the game "Ground Zeros" the second portion takes place 9 years after and is called "The Phantom Pain". Together these make up Metal Gear Solid 5.

Yeah I'm cautious about everything anymore.
If there is anybody who can get us all nervous by announcing would-be game breaking mechanics in an otherwise step forward for the series and deliver pure gold despite the doubts, it's Hideo Kojima.

If I had to argue, Splinter Cell seems to be going the way of the Resident Evil series with you being more of a soldier on a battlefield rather than actually sneaking around. I haven't seen much since the E3 Demo but I can't say I like where Splinter Cell is going.
Digging deeper: It's nice to evolve but some times you need to let sleeping dogs lay. If it's not going to break new ground in it's respective genre than maybe the series needs to go on hiatus for awhile so the market can get a craving for it again. Then come back with something that's a bit more of the same but innovative.
Too often do developers take the formula they have, fitting into one genre, and attempted to evolve it to fit others. What ends up happening here is they alienate old fans while getting new audiences interested. Once a developer crosses that line there is no going back. If Resident Evil went back to the fixed camera and puzzle solving of older games their would be a huge negative response fro the community just because the kiddies have gotten used to one way and the old way is well, old.
They would lose money and they can't risk that. Not anymore. So we are kind of stuck.

yea i see what you mean but i kinda like where the spinter cell series is goin but saying that I wih they could just put the best of both worlds from the newer and older games with an intense storyline simmiliar to double agent but improved. anyway thats just my thoughts

I'm calling it.
This game will not come to the PS3 or 360 but rather the next gen consoles sometime in 2014.
The game looks too good to come to current gen consoles. There is no way they will split a MGS game between generations nor will they release it on a current gen hardware that will be ruled obsolete by new hardware that is incomparable with it.

Hasn't MGS always had an open-world gameplay structure?

Yeah, I don't know what they mean by that. I think they are going to have multiple bases you can travel to via helicopter. Linearity in Action/Adventure games kind of died sometime in the last generation.

It might give you the option to take stealth or action as they seem to want to make it more of a sandbox but I know that that means... it's an agtion game.
Any time they give you the choice, either the A.I. is unrealistically smart and finds you too easy or too dumb and you can breeze through the game, killing when you need to.

Pretty much, you can spend 30 mins hiding and sneaking past these 3 guards or spend 30 seconds shooting them..... hmmmm what should we do....
