As for the MM NPC's being identical to the OOT ones, there are two things that easily explain this. First, Majora's Mask was developed in about a year, so they didn't have to time to create entirely new character models. Second, Link falls into a worm hole and is transported to an alternate universe. Think of it this way: MM is essentially the Zelda version of Alice in Wonderland. Sure it's a stretch, but it's more believable than Link somehow dreaming this all up while he's already dead. ^This, its the same reason Goldeneye maps and guns are in Perfect Dark, if it aint broke dont fix it (or give yourself more work than you have to) I remember even before MM came out or at least when I first played it knowing that MM takes place in an alternate universe. I cant remember if I read about it in a magazine or I just worked it out be I always thought it was pretty obvious. When Shigeru Miyamoto is making a new Zelda game he thinks "I know what would be cool" then writes a story to fit around that idea, that is why the timeline is so messed up, he doesnt care! He just makes good games, it doesnt need to fit into a timeline or be fully explained.

I know it's from a fan-made wiki page, but those people usually know what they're talking about.
