Ya know... I agree with the list to a point but "the best" isn't always the "scariest". Silence of the Lambs is a great movie and has some scares but did I ever go to bed after watching it and feel uneasy? No. Same goes for Psycho. Yeah this stuff could happen but in todays world but I doubt it would.
I say that, of course, and then go watch The Ring, or Paranormal Activity and can't sleep for an hour. Sure those movies feature fictional circumstance but I can see the horror in my mind. That kind of horror is like death. If you are confronted by it the chances of escape are slim and you have no plan of defense for it. THAT scares me.
I won't get stabbed to death in the shower or chase a sick murderer into a pitch black basement alone. I'm smart enough to avoid that. But if I'm sleeping and all hell breaks loose or even the general idea of fear I'm not prepared for becomes a factor I can't keep myself together.
