As my name implies I am a fan of the 1982 film Blade Runner, based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick. I have made an effort to watch all films based on his work and was pleasantly surprised by A Scanner Darkly (2006).
It takes place a few years in the future where 40% of the population is addicted to a hard drug known as substance D. A highly addictive street drug that causes hallucinations and permanent brain damage and/or psychosis to the user.
Telling the story of an undercover cop who shares his house with a group of suspected dealers and addicts in order to find the source of the drug. In an effort to blend in with both environments he ends up leading a double life, losing himself between the two and losing touch with reality. I won't spoil the rest of the film but there is the premise. I can't say it's the best movie I have ever seen but it's definitely one of those that surprises you. It's different, and I respect it for that.
If you like movies that make you think, give this one a watch.

You don't have to explain to me, I struggle to read books it takes me weeks! Whereas a movie only takes hours.
The only reason I read other Philip K Dick books was because I had watched Blade Runner about 50 times and wanted something new. Believe me there is in the books!
