I take a look at Resident Evil 1 remake on the GameCube and find out if it is true to the original but was the original truly original?

I like the part when you say Resident Evil wouldn't be the way we know it today without REmake and the series short life as a Gamecube exclusive. Resident Evil 4 was supposed to be a Gamecube exclusive, like, forever. The creator of the series jokingly said he would commit suicide if it was ever on a different console and felt he had "tricked" alot of people into buying a Gamecube just for RE4 just to have it release on PS2 a year later. I bring this up because that broke off his relationship with Capcom and THAT is why he had no hand in RE5 and onward. He's working on The Evil Within right now, but you know that.
I forgot how well the music added to the absolute dread and discomfort you felt when those Zeds break through the windows. Chilling. Great vid man.

Even if res 4 is no longer exclusive it has to be said GameCube is hands down the best console for resident evil games! What did you think about the similarities with alone in the dark?

I think without a doubt they played and borrowed from Alone in the Dark. It's not too bad though, a lot of horror clichés are present and while they borrowed heavily in some cases I wouldn't call it a rip off by any stretch. Of course maybe that's because Resident Evil, well, did it better in a lot of ways.
In saying that, I have never played Alone in the Dark so I don't really have a a dog in the race. I love resident Evil Remake. Would love to see it port to Xbox Live Arcade. I would also like to see a from the ground up remake of Alone in the Dark now though, keeping the camera angles and such.

In doing more research on the question as to why Resident Evil 4 was more action oriented it seems Capcom pulled an Activision on Mikami when he took up the mantle of project director of RE4.
It seems Mikami had put all his faith in another director to head up production on RE4 while he finished development on Code Veronica. This new director, Kawamura took the concept of the games story through many iterations and wasted a lot of time and money trying to reinvent the gameplay the series had become own for.
Mikami came in and took over directing when it was clear that Kawamura was running in circles with the concepts. Mikami was put under great pressure by Capcom to produce results or the series would be canceled. The entire development team lost motivation after Mikami thrashed all existing concepts and rewrote the story and gameplay, insisting on the new camera angle and aim system.
It was money that drove Resident Evil into the state it's in today. Capcom felt too much money was spent on the development and it drove Mikami to hastily reinvent a series that, in hindsight, didn't need it. It was a Gamecube exclusive and has since been ported to nearly every major gaming device to come out since. Cashing in.
It was a bad situation in forcing Mikami to make a game in a way he didn't want to and putting his reputation under fire. Mikami left Capcom after that.

Ahh... So, that... drug addict zombie is the thing that never ceased to chase me and my friend around the mansion when we played the remake. Ugh. They move so unexpectedly. Being Resident Evil 1, I expected it to just get over it's little reanimation animation and start shambling towards us as usual. Freaked the hell outta me.
