Take the time and watch this.
Yeah. He's annoyed at the new consoles, especially the Xbone for explained reasons but about 2 thirds through the video (about 6:55) he drops a bomb that gives me hope for the "future" of gaming and it's not at all what I expected.
I do hope some quality control is implemented into the industry really soon. It's getting ridiculous that the commercials are lying as he says.

Aw yiss, Genesis baby... Retro 8-bit/16-bit era games will always be played, not just because of the nostalgia glasses, but be cause they were DAMN good games... I bet I could give that Genesis box to my 6 year old nephew, and while at first he might look at me funny, he'd play a game or two, and he'd be hooked! The fancy graphics, the detailed controls, GONE, out the window in favour of playability and downright enjoyment... and why? Because in those eras, in the infancy of gaming, games were made to be enjoyed... Made by people who had ideas and visions of what they would love to play... Cities, countries, worlds, UNIVERSES that were a dream to be reached, and reach for the stars they did

:'(Man. That was beautiful.
I'm reminded of introducing my wife to Perfect Dark after having her try her hand at COD and Halo campaigns. A single level was a chore and a frustrating endeavor to say the least on the later games. When we played Perfect Dark she was able to breeze through the first 3 levels frustration free.
Her and I discussed just a week ago what makes a great game. Card game, board game, video game. It needs to be simple enough that a person can pick it up quickly on multiple occasions, and play it successfully. On the other hand, it must have the depth enough and required skill to master and give a feeling of accomplishment with every victory.
Perfect Dark is very easy to pick up and play with auto-aim and without the complexities of jump/sprint/grenade buttons of modern shooters. Never mind armor abilities and context sensitive weapon pick-ups. On harder difficulties, while the simple gameplay is still present, the number of things to do and higher danger level leads to a great feeling of accomplishment and demands a certain level of learned skill. It keeps you coming back with this learned skill to achieve more and more.
Today, between cut-scenes, waypoints, checkpoints, regenerating health, and plenty of other in-game handicaps it's hard not to feel like you have only seen the end of a movie in modern games rather than reached the end of a personal interactive experience that required time and determination.

Yeah but Perfect Dark and the N64 sucks!!!! You cant even but a $60 car on Perfect Dark! in fact you arent even forced to buy anything on PD "thats a babies toy" All jokes aside did the video mention anything about the Wii U (I am in work so cant watch it all) like I said I am now getting one for Christmas and I am really looking forward to it!

But. Cmon. Lets be real. Its always Mario. Give me a break. I just mean the secret sause is starting to taste funny. NES, , N64, Wii, WiiU, Mario can do no wrong and I'm kinda tired of the golden boy being so golden. Especially when the market is absolutly dripping with saturation of this one character. Sorry. I do enjoy a good Mario game but puting a Mario game on WiiU over everything else just feels... cheap. A great mario game is now synonomous with a Nintendo console. I mean other than the super high profile Zelda game it is almost ALWAYS Mario dominating as "best game of console". NES: Super Mario Bros. 3 : Super Mario World N64: Super Mario 64 NGC: -------------- GBA: Super Mario Advance 2 NDS: New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Super Mario Galaxy 3DS: Super Mario 3D Land Wii U: Super Mario 3D World I guess I'm tired of Mario being pasted as the best game on each respective console short of Zelda. I'm starting to wonder where the cool aid is coming from.

I had fun with Sunshine. I was just pointing out that the highest rated game on each Nintendo console, second only to the respective Zelda generations is always a Mario game. That is hard to believe when you consider how little it's changed in the last 15 years. But that's Nintendo in a nutshell. Maybe I'm just getting tired of journalists criticizing Nintendo for the rut it's been stuck in with these classic franchises, just to turn around and give the same franchise praise. I'm not sure anymore if the lack of 3rd party titles on Nintendo systems is just a well thought out ploy to continually get rich on it's own properties. Think about it. They starve us of quality Wii U titles to the point that we will play ANYTHING of real quality (even if we played it a million times before) so when they come out with yet another solid Mario game we stamp 5 stars on it and call it gold just because it has us actually using and enjoying that $300 brick we bought a year ago. Not trying to flat out bash Nintendo. I'm sure they are good games. It's just when I saw Super Mario 3D World get the reviews it got I was as surprised as I was in 2007 when Super Mario Galaxy beat out Bioshock, Orange Box, COD4, and Halo3 and Oblivion in critical praise. Give me a break.

That is hard to believe when you consider how little it's changed in the last 15 years. Hey if it aint broke dont fix it!lol I can see what you are saying but it most cases you are wrong, all Mario games are similar but none are the same I think they change it up enough to make it interesting and fun again. Also..... Earlier in the thread you said this.... Her and I discussed just a week ago what makes a great game. Card game, board game, video game. It needs to be simple enough that a person can pick it up quickly on multiple occasions, and play it successfully. lol. Yeah it's probably a personal thing. I want Nintendo to succeed and DO enjoy playing most Mario games. I just don't want them succeeding on formulas that are so recycled that I (and many others) have lost interest.
I can't believe I'm saying this but does Mario change SO much that is DESERVES this kind of praise? I say no. So shouldn't Call of Duty: Ghosts be considered just as good at COD4? Why is one rewarded and the other shunned by so many? I played all the New Super Mario games (owned 2) and they are so similar if not for the gradual graphical improvement I wouldn't know which I was playing. Reminds me of COD.
Since 2009 we have had one Mario game a year, either 2D or 3D on portable, console, or both.
I know I'm about to lose my membership here are club nostalgia by saying this kinda stuff but I personally, am tired of Mario games. I would rather they take the Zelda approach and release one every 3 years, and let the 3rd party's sell the system in between. You know, like the way Pre-Wii Nintendo did.

Maybe. Despite all that's been said. I don't doubt for a second that Super Mario 3D World is the best next gen game so far. I just wish I had an argument saying that Perfect Dark: Contact Nexus or Zelda: Wand of Fate or something old, exciting and not over-saturating the market was the best Next gen game to date.

^This is pretty much what confirms Mario as the best next gen game, no one can disprove it with a better game! I am sure windwaker HD is good but I know it will have a been there done that feel.
