Sorry, excuse me for a moment while I play some more DayZ.
Yeah, so the standalone of the much respected DayZ mod is out (Soon to cause much confusion with the mod and the actual game), and it's held up pretty well. Despite the fact that the current build resembles the sturdiness of a tuna mayo sandwich with no butter, I'd say the game is doing pretty well. $5.1 million racked up in the first day of release is something that can't be said for every alpha.
Actually, while the game doesn't meet up with the polish of a lot of recent zombie survival games, I can't say DayZ doesn't deserve all the support. I've never had this much fun in a game with no scripting or set-pieces. Minecraft is really the only experience that comes close to the amount of freedom given in DayZ. Sure, Minecraft is probably the bigger success, given it's family friendly nature, but that hasn't stopped me from loving every minute spent in Chenarus.
Well, maybe not every minute. I probably could've done without the brain-meltingly boring treks through the seemingly endless wilderness. And maybe the bugs. And maybe there could be a few more zombies, but that's soon to come. Alpha is alpha!
So, has anyone even played it? With all the copies sold, I can't imagine someone on the forum hasn't gotten their hands on one.

AAAAhh I keep getting notices on steam saying "Shabbycat is now playing DayZ standalone". I haven't played it yet but I bought Arma 2 and the other stuff required to play the mod about a week before it came out. which was rather stupid in hindsight...
