I've been thinking...trying to decide which is the best bond film out of all of them is pretty useless and stupid.
I think it might be because each bond actor couldn't do every other Bond actor's stories. For example you can see Sean Connery do some hardcore espionage in Casino Royale but you couldn't see him floating around in space fighting Jaws. You could easily see Moore fight a man named "Mr. kill" but you couldn't see him going on a vendetta, License to Kill style. You can catch my drift...
So it would be better to just go through each Bond actor of the Eon Bond series (no "never say never" or the original two Casino Royale's then) and decide which is the best, or which one you liked the most.
It's what I'm going to do....right now...
Sean Connery
My pick for Connery's top movie would be Goldfinger. A fantastic theme song, a fairly water tight story, a great villain and some of the best quotes in the series' history. I also love the chemistry between our protagonist and the "Bond girl", Pussy Galore, in this one too. What can I say it's Connery at his best.
George Lazenby
It's quite obviously On her Majesty's secret service. The favourite of no one which depresses me because it really isn't that bad. I guess Lazenby is too Bond fans what Sylvester McCoy is to Classic Who fans.
Roger Moore
I really can't decide whether to judge the Roger Moore era on my enjoyment or the actual quality of the movie (I enjoy all of his Bond movies but I won't pretend that any of them are particularly great). So i decided to judge them on the strength of the theme song so, get ready to pelt me with rocks....A View to a Kill
Timothy Dalton
I love the Dalton era. There I said it. His films seem to be a warm up for the Craig era. we see a much more serious Bond but we are still bound to the Cold War stuff (especially in the living daylights). But rather than follow a silly cold war plot like many of the Moor or Connery era films, the Living Daylights Sports a much more realistic story line about drugs, assassins and espionage and also the soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Bond teams up with the Mujahideen (back when they were the good guys). So it's fairly obvious that my Favourite Dalton film is The living daylights
Pierce Brosnan
I really didn't like the Brosnan era. I thought it reeked of the late 90's, at least all the crappy pop culture tropes that were starting to surface. There was one movie however that I thought would be up there in the top three if I ever did a list of the best bond films of the entire series. It's a movie that spawned an N64 game that we on this sight hold very dear to our hearts. It had one of the best songs, best plots and best supporting characters. I'am of course talking a about: Goldeneye
Daniel Craig
After the complete train wreck that is the latter installments of the Brosan era, the powers in Hollywood decided to let Bond rest for a few years and work on rebooting the series. To be the figure head of this new look would be a man who people have said, looks like a cross between Peter 'o' Toole...and Gollum. Daniel Craig, who wasn't well known, entered the part of Bond in what I consider to be the best Bond Film ever; Casino Royale. He then followed that up with a direct sequel entitled; Quantum of Solace which everyone, except me, hated. After the negative feed back from Quantum the producers decided to, basically back pedal and, create a film closer to the classic bond films. We got Skyfall which, despite just being a medley of classic Bond elements and being one big long advert for miscellaneous products and companies, made a metric fuck ton of money at the box office and was universally liked by everyone. It had Javier Bardem dusting the place with Homo erotic tension, Q being bullied by Bond for his age and Lord Voldemort becoming head of MI6 (I bet you that'll come back to bite them later). Basically, Skyfall nuked everything that Casino Royale set out to do, create a good solid collection of modern (ish) spy films. But after one fluke, one movie not being that good, MgM freaked out and made a more marketable product (reminds you of Tim Burton's batman films doesn't it?). I still loved Skyfall, even though the movie didn't really start till half way through and there was more product placement in the first ten minutes then an hour of ITV, but Craigs best film was quite obviously Casino Royale. It was mature, sophisticated, brutal, dramatic, accessible and didn't sell it's self out like a whore (ok maybe it did accept some paychecks from Ford and Aston Martin but it really isn't that distracting...ok maybe the ford focus is but still...). Casino Royale wins this by a mile
So, that's my thoughts on the matter of best films out of each actor. Now I'll let you lot post your opinions and maybe have a flame war. In the mean time I'm going to write a review for Casino Royale have fun
