For me the longevity with the MGS games were playing on the harder difficulties or playing the VR missions. I still have loads to do on the HD remakes on the 360 and I really enjoy them.

In thinking about Resident Evil. I wondered around that mansion for the better part of an hour last night because I was so lost in what to do. Something tells me the only thing I'm unlocking for round two is a costume.
Some of those missions on MGS are fun but like with the challenge maps in Batman Arkham City they get so hard and I get so hung up on some I burn out and don't play anymore. Arkham had a new game plus but it was a lot harder. I just want to play through again while unlocking more and better things until I'm so awesome nobody can beat me. THEN take that to a higher difficulty....
Because if the higher difficulty means it's more realistic in that the enemies pull no punches and make no stupid moves than it only stands to reason that the player character should be at the top of his game as well. For me, in these sandbox games, easy and normal modes should reserve the right to start you out with nothing and gradually give you more weapons and abilities. The harder difficulty levels should have your character maxed and leave it all to you skill as a seasoned player to accomplish your goals. If the harder difficulty levels are just easy/normal, but harder, it feels synthetic.
I just want games to allow me to tackle the hardest difficulty level as the seasoned vet I have become in real life, in the game.

Tbh, that's one of the things I liked in Resi 5... Complete it fast enough and you unlock the ability to buy infinite ammo for the rocket launcher... With that thing, it doesn't even matter what difficulty it's on =p
