Orth lacks discipline. Personally, I work very hard at the work I do (radio) and am judged harshly and swiftly by the general public when something goes wrong.
It is a persons responsibility to conduct themselves in a way that is respectful not just to their fellow man, but to themselves. Orth made himself look like a fool by posting those things. He wasn't being funny or smart and was toying with peoples strong feelings of the idea of an always online console.
There is a time and place to be silly and have fun but never on your employers time and never at work.
It's that simple, and that profound.

He wasn't being funny or smart and was toying with peoples strong feelings of the idea of an always online console. There is a time and place to be silly and have fun but never on your employers time and never at work. It's that simple, and that profound. The thing is though, that nobody has stepped up to say anything positive about it, ever. For months on end, he's been told by millions of people how the product he's worked on is utter trash and that it should be scrapped. There's the people that think it's a bad idea, but then there's the people that actually go out of their way to berate and sometimes threaten the people within, and when you work on something so personally, it's got to be hard to take so much negative feedback at once from so many varying sources. He should have handled it exponentially better than he did, and he shouldn't have lost his temper on Twitter of all things. He screwed it up big time. Because of his outburst, he'll now be forever condemned by millions as "the guy who insulted internet opinions." On top of this, he got fired for (admittedly poorly) defending a possible implement that may not even exist because it was his opinion. First impressions are huge, and he left an absolutely horrible one across the board. Despite his unprofessionalism, I don't think that merits a full disbarment of such a large job. Odds are that he's been working there for quite some time, so for MS to up and fire him on the spot is rough. I don't think he's in the right, nor do I really agree with his idealism of always online. I more just feel bad for the bastard for not only losing a well-paying and rare job, but being marked by thousands for the rest of his life, all because he said some stupid stuff on Twitter. Iunno, perhaps I'm just overthinking it here :V Dammit Pedro! Just hate the guy already! NO U

I see your point Pedro, I expected and even hoped he would get fired though. There are to many 20, 30, 40 something children working in powerful positions because they climbed the long slow ladder to get there and some how never learned the more important lessons that come with that journey. With the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure Orth was one of those hard working indivisuals.
Having come that far, there is NO excuse for those those BS tweets to have ever been posted. This is a type of natural selection. If he wants to be a prick, if that makes him happy then by all means he should do it. The fat cats as Microsoft thought there was an understanding that there were no openings for pricks when they hired him. Never mind the publicly open kind of prick this guy is.

Yeah, that makes sense and I can see what you mean. He probably deserves it to some capacity, but I still feel a bit sympathetic for him. I can't help it I don't really have anything else to really say at this point beyond just repeating myself, which is pretty useless. Agree to disagree? X-D

His situation is an unfortunate one. He made his own bed here and now he's got to lay in it. I hope he learned an important lesson from all this and I wish him well in the future.
