So, if you haven't heard by now (and really, how couldn't you have?) the Xbox "720" will not support any 3rd party games. This means games you don't own cant be played.
Borrowed a friend's? Nope.
Rented from a store? Not a chance.
Bought it used? Don't make me laugh.
And if that wasn't bad enough, the console will require a continuous and worse, stable, internet connection for all games single and multi player.
This isn't just a problem in the sense that not everyone has internet (or reliable internet), but it's also a problem in that Xbox live is a service you already pay for. So now that games will require internet (just to get to the fucking start menu), you'll now have to pay $60 for the service required to use a game that you bought for $60.
Holy mother of all facepalms.
What do you guys think? Am I over-reacting, or is this totally uncool?

Yeah, I heard this myself... It is quite uncool, but being used to Steam, I'm a bit more ok with it than a lot of people will be... I don't buy used or rent anyway, but it will stop me borrowing my friends games I guess... The internet stability is another thing though, mine can be a pain at times, but I guess all we can really do is wait for official details to be released by Microsoft and see where it goes from there... Who knows, what with it being similar a successful PC platform, we might see a decrease in the price of games to the same level of PC games (I wouldn't hold my breath on that one though) or maybe even some sweet deals the likes of Steams seasonal sales (Again though, wouldn't hold my breath =s)

If this is true then you are not overreacting but there is no proof and I doubt Microsoft would do this. There just arnt enough people with internet yet. if this does happen then I won't support it.

If this is true then you are not overreacting but there is no proof and I doubt Micro$oft would do this. There just arnt enough people with internet yet. if this does happen then I won't support it. I'll be honest with you, I intended to provide you with links backing my claims for the new Xbox, and when I found a few and re-read them, well, I'm not ashamed to admit that you are correct. At this point, it is all just rumor and speculation with no real foundation in facts. I'll still provide the links, should you choose to read through them, and I'm still extremely concerned about the very near future of console gaming, but at least I can back down and say "I'm wrong." For now anyway Clicky

Greenfire buddy, lets try to keep a full glass about things. The future may indeed be grim but there is no way of knowing yet. People said the same thing about the ps4 and as it turns out, this no used games hardware is actually no pirated games hardware.

Funny how Microsoft is doing it, when Sony announced the PS4 will support used games.

I suggest you guys look at reviewtechusa's videos for all the info on 720 and ps4 but the allways on DRM and banning used games rumors and them firing there asshole creative director has made me shy away from a 720 and I'm now more in favor of a ps4 all things consider, it just feels like Microsoft are on shakey ground here while he ps4 just sits and watches, but who knows

The guy from twitter was fired? ClickyAlso, the NextBox is said to support cable TV. Clicky. While this may seem like some good news in a sea of the bad, anyone who has Netflix and an Xbox knows this is the biggest scam yet. You'll need to pay for Xbox live Gold, you'll need to pay your internet provider for all the extra data you're going to be downloading, and you'll need to pay your cable company (or get cable if you're currently on satellite like EVERY RURAL RESIDENT EVER) just to watch some TV. So...screw that.

Only thing that bugs me about always online is being forced to use it for single-player games. It makes sense in the context of an MMO or multiplayer-focused shooter, but if you look at the botched releases of Diablo 3 and Sim City, the main reason there was an uproar in the first place is that they were being coerced into sharing info with the publisher just so they could access their single-player content, which is probably the reason most people got the games anyways. Yeesh. And on the topic of stupid Orth or whatever his name was, dude's a total doucher, but I don't think he should have been outright fired for his opinion. Sure, he's arrogant and he attacked pretty much anyone that followed his Twitter, but to be fired from his dream job for being outspoken is pretty damn harsh

Orth had to have known what he was doing and that he would have been fired. NOBODY with a brain speaks that arrogantly in the name of their employer and expects everything to be fine.

Orth had to have known what he was doing and that he would have been fired. NOBODY with a brain speaks that arrogantly in the name of their employer and expects everything to be fine. I'm sure he expected some sort of backlash or punishment, but considering that he was the creative director, it's probably been something he's managed for a while, so whether or not you may agree with his point of view (I don't), it's undisputedly brutal. Imagine how upset you would be if you worked on something for years while everyone badmouthed it, and then when you get angry at them for bemoaning your project, you're told to hit the road so that someone else gets the credit. I don't like the guy in the slightest, nor do I want an always-online connection, but I still can't help but feel bad for the dude.
