This thread is for everyone who wants to share their thoughts on the Destiny Beta.
I'll jump right in:
Two hours in...
First thing I noticed was that the game has a level of polish that makes it look great but it's nothing groundbreaking. I'm thinking this is another one of those games that will only look different between generations when put side-by-side.
I don't know if it's just the Beta but they give you heaps of freedom right off the bat. After the initial introduction, the game is open for you to start missions with friends or by yourself anywhere on earth.
The MMO feel is present. I would run into other players mid-mission and help them fight and vice-verse. This happened just often enough to be neat and fun but not to the point of becoming that annoying "stop following me! Stop stealing my kills!" thing you can imagine it becoming. Everyone does their own thing and helps one another when convenient and so far, I really like that.
The weapons are various but simple akin to a mix between Halo/COD and you keep them in a load out style depending on what level you are. You have access to more things the higher level you become. You reach higher levels through battle. If you are familiar with the weapons of modern FPS games than you will never be lost.
Yes, there is an ADS mechanic, sprinting is a natural ability, and grenades and health regenerate, yes, I said grenades regenerate. Don't ask. The nice thing here is that the game rewards you for NOT looking down the sights. I know for COD players it's the natural reflex at the first sign of danger to hit that left trigger but there is a damage bonus for kickin it old-school and going Rambo in a firefight. The sprinting is a godsend for traversing the wide open land-scape and the regenerating health is what you've come to expect. Later in the game you can spawn a speeder bike from Return of the Jedi and have fun with that.
The sound design is just awesome in this game. The gunfire and vehicle sounds are impressive. The soundtrack? Jury's out on that right now.
So far, Destiny is what I always imagined it would be. The spiritual successor to Halo: Reach. The level of customization and open interface is very reminiscent of Reach but blown op ten fold. The graphics and sound make it feel like a natural evolution for the Bungie FPS. Still on the fence about picking up the retail version in September but the bottom line is so far, I like it.

A friend brought his PS4 to my house with the beta installed I did NOT enjoy it!
It felt to me like Halo done badly IMO Halo online is a more enjoyable experience than Destiny online, I would say Destiny online is more COD than Halo which is maybe why I disliked it. The vehicles are over powered to ground troops in a pretty silly way..
The story mode mechanics are really awkward, enemies respawn constantly, this isn't a little annoyances it is a total game breaker. I have killed enemies in the world, turned my back only to get shot by the enemies I just killed, that isnt an exaggeration. I explored a small cave for 2 minutes, then on the way out I had to fight the enemies I killed at the mouth of the cave again! It fells like nothing I do in the world matters.
Bosses, I fought two bosses in the game he is how that when in both occasions
1. Kill enemies to get to the boss 2. Shoot at the boss until I run out of ammo 3. Run back to kill enemies to get ammo (redundant way to get ammo saying as I have no ammo) 4. Shoot at the boss until I run out of ammo 5. Run back to kill enemies to get ammo 6. Shoot at the boss until I run out of ammo 7. Run back to kill enemies to get ammo 8. Shoot at the boss until I run out of ammo 9. Run back to kill enemies to get ammo 10. Shoot at the boss until it dies

Wow that makes so much sense. I keep on thinking I missed an enemy but the respawning theory/fact really explains it. Yeah it is shallow but it is a beta too. I've only got 2 hours with it but I can say I'm enjoying it for what it is... don't know about buying the retail version though...
Also don't like how the enemies resemble the Prometheans from Halo 4.

The respawning thing wont change, beta or not. It is the only way to get ammo so it has to happen. I was also talking about the Prometheans resembles to my friend but he is a playstation guy so he has never played Halo.

Well this is the only game I've seen that can't run off a USB..
And I don't have enough maximum hard drive space to download it.
But I'll give my impressions of some youtube footage.
In order for a multiplayer FPS to be good in my opinion, it has to:
Have strong incentives for movement and aggression. NEUTRAL -- Presumably there are pickups in D just like halo. Good. However, there is sprinting and ADS, which discourages movement.
Have fast movement. FAIL
Have mostly non-hitscan weapons. FAIL
Not require reloading. FAIL
So basically it's the same as halo.

Shoot at the boss until it dies I took issue with the respawning enemies as well in the alpha. It's completely immersion-breaking to kill all the enemies in an area only to return five minutes later and get shot by the same derps you gunned down only moments before, and in a lore-heavy game looking to immerse the player, it just doesn't make sense. I'm guessing this has something to do with Destiny being a pseudo-MMO. Another letdown for me was just exploration in general. I remember getting to the end of the collapsed highway right after exiting the dam and being greeted by a beautiful snow-covered landscape; the place looked ripe for exploration, but in keeping with the rest of the areas in the game, only a very small portion of the environment was traversable. I constantly ran into invisible walls and arbitrary kill boundaries to the point of frustration. Maybe I've spoiled by the limitless freedom of the Elder Scrolls games, and maybe Bungie didn't want to put all their cards on the table with an early WIP of the game, but it really killed immersion for me. Within the playable environments themselves I also found a distinct lack of motivation to explore. There really wasn't any wildlife to speak of, pickups basically consisted of either the extremely rare weapon or crafting material, and enemies were located in the same place every time. Basically, I found the world lacking in pretty much everything that could have made it feel alive. Perhaps Bungie will tweak this and the story will give exploration more context in the full game, but I'm not holding my breath. TL;DR version: the Destiny alpha felt like Borderlands without the latter's charm. I definitely won't be buying this game at release. (If anyone can tell me whether or not some of these issues have been addressed in the beta that'd be great)

I honestly didn't even know about the damage boost for hip-fire... I stick with scout rifles and pop headshots

Also, if you hang around to watch the enemies respawn, you see they get dropped off in a dropship and move into position... At least, on the outside anyway

Also, I really enjoyed the event things that kick in every once in a while... Stop the Fallen from mining glimmer, disarm the bomb, kill the mini-boss before he gets to his target... They occur in places that aren't in "The darkness" (where enemies don't respawn, due to only your fireteam being in them, which is all mission-specific areas) so you can have about 8 people defending this bomb while a ghost is defusing it and you're holding off waves of Fallen

Yeah the honeymoon period died for me at about the 3 hour mark last night. I joined Xargen and a team and we took down a few enemies which was fun but nothing you can't get from most co-op experiences. Then I made the mistake of going and playing the competitive multiplayer...
This is when I realized that the mistake is in Bungie trying to be Halo, Boarderlands, COD, and World of Warcraft. They should have picked two and made a (great) game with that idea. For me, this game is only at it's best when your playing co-op with friends you know. Thats a BAD sign for a Bungie FPS.
The multiplayer is very much like COD but the damage values and map design are extremely reminiscent of the more wide open spaces of Halo. IF you don't know why that doesn't work, let me explain.
In Call of Duty, the multiplayer is a big game of hide and seek. If I start shooting at you before you start shooting at me, I have a significant advantage over you. This isnt always the case in COD and thats how people get frustrated and absolutely useless weapons (pistols) are created in the COD sandbox. In Destiny, unless your wielding a Halo-style power weapon like Shotgun or Sniper Rifle (which are always available) you are at an immediate disadvantage. Everyone is a bullet sponge so you are forced to snipe or camp or die. Pick one.
Nothing turns me off faster than I, a FPS vet if there ever was one, not being able to compete in a multiplayer match. Competitive multiplayer in Destiny is an absolute crap shoot. Running around will get you shotgunned in the back, camping will get you sniped, and unless your using one of the two types of mentioned weapons, it's not even worth playing.

Technically, the game looks and feels pretty solid. Nothing ground breaking but it's something old and something new. As mentioned before. The respawning enemy's make you feel like the war your in is pointless. The story is convoluted to a point that I don't understand or care why there are enemies in the first place and why there are different kinds. Those invisible walls are annoying in a game that is supposedly free-roam. Xargen I was hoping for something akin to Halo OR Call of Duty but it's SUCH a mix up that Halo 4 looks absolutely tame in comparison. Destiny's multiplayer is what I feared/fear Halo would/will become. ADS don;t belong in a Halo game and vice versa.

I did manage to get into an out-of-bounds area in the Tower which was probably the most fun half an hour of doing nothing I've ever done

Anyone else still bewildered as to how this game took $500 million to make? With a game like GTA V the money was on-screen the second you caught a glimpse of Los Santos. With Destiny I'm just not seeing it. In fact, compared to older Bungie games like Reach or H3 this game is looking increasingly light on content.
